This is one of those devices I'd love to pick up at a deep discount on clearance.

rivalry between brands is good for the final user

It can't just be a "good enough for daily tasks" machine at that price.

Better to wait for the next generation

It's okay, but for $1300, I can get a proper laptop which will run games at higher settings.

@9:25. The Intel has 16 cores and 22 threads, not 32. E-cores are single threaded.

Surprised to see first gen is performing so well

I would like to see this with a lightweight Linux distro. Everything I run in the future is going to be Linux based. I'm not interested in having AI/Copilot stuffed down my throat any more than I wanted Edge, Cortana and Bing.

2:26 what's with the sudden audio cut/jump ?

Can you check Linux on any of the arm platforms you have available?

I remember when people were saying that ARM would never leave the server space. 😅

tbh im disapointed, these arm chips are not that much better than the amd 8840u in terms of efficiency, zen 5 will destroy x elite in both performance and battery life and lunar lake will also at least match the x elite if not exceed it

Just bought an ROG X14 for gaming, gonna wait a year for the next gen of this chip, iron out some kinks and I think it'll be a great media player/mobile work station for a weekend without a charger. It'll replace my larger tablets and still do some low end gaming and high end emulation. I'm excited we're finally getting this kind of battery performance with Windows. Hopefully Linux soon too.

Please note that not all games are natively compatible with ARM architecture. Despite this limitation, the performance of this chip is quite impressive. It is primarily designed for tasks other than gaming. However, it outperforms all Intel or AMD laptops in terms of battery life, particularly in standby mode. This advancement brings it very close to the standards set by Apple.

Why do you keep saying the intel has 16 cores (kinda true 6 p core 10 e core) and 32 threads (only 22 threads). Also would have been nice to see the 7940hs in here.

"Not a watered down ARM version..." what does that mean? Its most certainly ARM version of Windows 11. Just it can run x86 and x86-64 software too.

We'll need to come back later when the GPU drivers get more mature, the x86 > ARM translation layer too, because there's a clear CPU bottleneck in some cases.

I enjoyed this video, and I appreciate that you showed us the BIOS of this machine. That's the place to see if the machine can be booted with a USB stick.
The only other thing I'd like to see is if these Snapdragons run Linux. All the rest of the Windows stuff escapes me since I don't run that OS.

For a first iteration product, I’m impressed with these arm64 laptops. It must’ve been a lot of hard work to make this release possible. The M-series MacBooks made me switch to MacOS, which I now prefer to Windows.

Would be interested to see how something like Debian ARM performs on here. Are Linux-based OSes something you'll explore on these new snapdragon machines?
