UPDATE: Will be retesting the Book4 Edge against the 15" M3 Macbook Air after we discovered a hidden power setting which lowered performance in Cinebench 2024 10-minute Stress Test. (didn't improve Geekbench 6 score)

As for the "Best Battery Efficiency" on Samsung and "Recommended" on Surface - they are not similar at all. The "Best Battery Efficiency" would be something like Battery Saver, while "Recommended" isn't battery-focused.

There's no meaningful difference between 14 fps and 17 fps. Anyone trying to game at those frame rates could suffer a stroke due to the frustration.

Why did you test the laptops at different power modes? The Samsung has the power saving mode, for extreme cases where you don't have a charger. You should have used balanced mode on both to be an apples to apples comparison. You basically condemned the Galaxy book for having more options.

One thing I noted on your comparison, the Samsung had a Windows update available as you can see that notification icon on the taskbar at the bottom right. Next time I'd consider making sure both laptops are fully up to date on Windows versions, drivers, etc before making the comparison just to make it fair.

Should revisit this in a few months as I suspect many of the ARM laptops need further optimization/refinements.

It would have been nice to also see the M3 and M4 scores on the bar charts.

I'd rather have a laptop that's 7 degrees cooler on the outside than an imperceptible improvement in performance.

SAMSUNG needs a FIRMWARE update immediately for that laptop. And Microsoft definitely hit a homerun on that Surface Laptop. Also, the Surface should perform even better down the road with Firmware updates. Very impressed.

No point comparing to M4 because it isn't available in the MacBooks yet.
Also the battery modes in the Surface and the Samsung are not identical. I don't think recommended= best power efficiency mode.

Also side-note, the colour of that Surface and the safire is absolutely banging. Looks unbelievable.

Logically the Galaxy Book4 Edge is much better.
It's a matter of logic, connected the Book4 did 2, 838 in single core, and 15, 351 in multi core, against 2, 765 and 14, 220 for the Surface.
Already using battery power and in performance mode, the Book4 scored 2, 762 and 13, 485 points, against 2, 659 and 14, 195 points for the Surface, with the Surface reaching 46th against just 40th for the Book4.
In energy efficiency mode, we had 1, 659 and 8, 714 points on the Book4, against 2, 217 and 12, 302 on the Surface. So I ask, why does anyone want performance if they're trying to save battery? It doesn't make sense, Book4 is much more lucid.
In graphics, the Book4 won in all scenarios, with longer tests being up to 20% better. I didn't see the GPU test plugged in, but I suppose the difference is even greater in favor of the Book4.
With the Book4 you have a laptop in your control, capable of delivering performance when needed or saving battery.
Book4 started the test with 90% battery, against 87% of the Surface, and ended with 37% battery, against 23% of the Surface.
Book4 was better in performance, it was better in graphics and it was better in battery life, it really won in all scenarios. ARM chips came to deliver performance and battery life and the Book4 did the job much better! There's no discussion! You are misleading people by saying that the Surface was better, in fact it wasn't.

Did you check task manager on the Galaxy book to watch the core clocks ? I saw a report that the chip max clock was locked at 2.5ghz for some unknown reason on early units.

I have read that the Samsung Galaxy Book 4 Edge comes with two or three different motherboard sku's and the performance can differ, even on the same CPU.

Silly question, did you update the Edge book firmware directly from Samsung. Its meant to improve the on battery numbers. Other video on youtube had the same issue until updating firmware from Samsung.

Is all of this benchmark software optimized for ARM yet? Benchmarks are useful, but personally, I'd prefer to see some real world tests in actual real world situations.

Glad to see another ARM machine to compete with the Apples! Not prime time yet though. Next gen should be much better.

Does Samsung install additional apps that may be running on the background and causing the computer to underperform? I know that I saw a huge difference when I installed a clean copy of windows on my Dell. Performance went up

I am thinking of ordering the Snapdragon X Plus Microsoft surface. Looking forward to your next video!!! Thanks Max

Drivers are still pre-production. We didn't receive the final GPU or CPU drivers.
