Fighting fuel delivery issues

I am still fighting fuel starvation issues in the 1985 Ford Ranger. Could be a number of things but today we aim to narrow it down to 2 things: either fuel pump or fuel tank.

Your best off to drop the tank cleaned out and reinstall it or put a brand new taken place this way you know it’s gonna be clean

Bypass the main fuel line..20 ft fuel hose should do..straight to the gas tank and you will see it its your main fuel line on frame....my symptoms were air bubbles and no fuel to fuel pump

Fuel vaporisation causes poor hot starting after a journey (heat soak) and can cause air bubbles in filters & breakdowns. Fitting a 3 way filter with a tank return for the aerated fuel in place of the straight filter should fix it.

I wasn’t paying attention and install mine. Started up great, fuel filter full of fuel. Realize I got the side that said “IN“ on the carb side. So I swapped it with the OUT on the carb side and now it’s doing the same thing. That’s with my 71 Cutlass and it’s doing the same thing on my 79 Camaro and I changed the whole entire fuel system and it. I think the IN side is suppose to face the carb with just bad product word placement. Who knows. Lol

I have the same filter on my Chevy 73 but when I go above 30 it starts bogging and shuts off and when I check the filter it’s empty and the pump isn’t pushing as much gas

Anyone have a problem where upon replacing the fuel tank, the line is sucking air out of a full tank? Obviously something came undone in the tank or the arm is stuck in the up position, but the sending unit was new as well and worked for about 3 tanks. WTF

Can't a guy spray starting fluid in a short burst to get a little surge of the engine when you hit the mark ?

Seems air may be drawing into the input (suction) side of the fuel pump due to an internal leak in the pump body. Old pumps can do that. Is yours original? That would seem to be the most obvious bad part of system. Esp an old pump with an old, worn pumping parts. Try a new, or temp pump anyway and see what happens? Hope it helps!! :) DL

You routed the fuel filter somewhere where this is too much slack and that’s what’s causing a lot of your problems here. Not just the rust

FUEL CAP AREA OR PIPE CONNECTING FILLER NECK TO TANK? I HAD A BITCH OF A CAR THIS SUMMER THAT HAD THAT FINE RUSTY PURPLE CRAP IN THE TANK. IT WENT FOR 800 MILES0 THEN PICKED UP SOME SHIT INTO THE CARB AND IT BROKE DOWN. ALL YOU CAN DO IS DROP THE GAS TANK...GET IT CLEANED OUT AND TAKE YOUR TIME DOING
