Fitech Fuel Pump Problems

My fuel pump has been cutting out when I’m driving and I think it’s one of two things. Either the fun pump is too close to my exhaust, or it’s clogging up.

If your fuel pump is having problems, cutting in and out, or it feels like it’s loosing power while driving, take the fuel pump out and clean it. Simply run some brake cleaner through the top fuel inlet and allow it to drain out the bottom. Clean the screen on the pump really well.

Unfortunately, this was not my problem. My fuel pump was spotless. Turns out, it’s just getting too hot next to my exhaust. So, I moved the pump to the other side of the frame rail, and I hope that solves the problem.

Seems like nothing is easy in these FiTech systems. Put the Go Street 400hp on my Chevy C20 - with a 350 in it a year & 1/2 ago. Still doesn’t run right. Just issue after issue. No power, spits &sputtes. 11mpg Was about 16 when I drove it easy. Running new heavier fuel lines to & from the tanks' and the big pump.Capped off the vacuum ports, because the shop never connected them to anything, so new lines and reset it back to new and see how it relearns if no, I have an Edelbrock 650, ready to go into replace this mess. Hope yours is running better now.. liked your videos, Thanks.

I had a similar thing., brand new gas tank, FiTech fuel lines and pump, turned out the FiTech fuel lines were breaking down inside and guming up the pump. Ive now fabricated a custom sender unit, to use 100% Teflon braided lines and a Bosch 044 pump. The Bosch pump is silent compared with the FiTech Chinese copy

Never disappointing Jon! Keep them coming! 😏😎

Remember that pump is a pusher pump, it’s really to far from the tank. It should be as close to the tank as possible. This could also cause the pump to be overworked. The pump should work better closer to the tank and placed mid-tank level.

my very loud fitech pump lasted a couple of years, ... right by muffler... felt it.. not hot at all. With gas flowing thru it is hard for these to even come close to overheating. They are just crappy pumps. Mine finally died... took it off.... looked at inlet screen and.... nothing! very clean.

I am going to assume you were running the FiTech Fuel pump with the FiTech setup and the FiTech programming cycles the fuel pump as needed (I think) to promote cooling. If your fuel pump is running constantly they can overheat themselves (I don't think your placement was causing any problems). I know it is spring time driving weather, but due to our current situation, I would think it will be the perfect time to install the new tank and in tank fuel pump. I would not consider running any fuel injection without an in tank pump.

For your 23 gallon tank, are you going with the in-tank mounted fuel pump or the external? The external mounted are fairly loud, correct? Love your videos!

Separate it from the muffler with a heat shield, don't forget to coat the inside of the fuel tank with something before you put it in

Just put that tank in so we can have more bronco videos to watch. And you have most of your lines ran you really dont need to put new ones in. Just add in new hose with a an-6 coupling.

My problem when I ran a non in tank pump was overheating even when I had it mounted in the trunk. My problem was sucking up air from and fuel sloshing around in the stock tank of my 1968 bird. Even a short duration of air can cause the pump to fail but not completely it would sometimes work. I had a pre filter and had pressure at the rails. I also went through two different inline pumps and had the same issue. I eventually went to an intake pump and tank that was baffled with foam to keep fuel from sloshing and the pump from sucking air. Problem solved.

Inline pumps are known for over heating. I would wrap the exhaust and not the pump. Wrapping the pump hinders its ability to cool.

Your fuel system must be deadhead return less system. Your new tank probably will have baffles and intank pump solves a lot of problems.
