I want to thank you for taking the time to explain how to assess whether a fuel pump is good or bad. Your advice worked on a 1998 VW Jetta Wolfsburg edition, 2.0 liter engine(gas). Many, many thanks! Brad

I got 6.2 ohms. But you should always touch the probes together and measure the resistance between them and subtract that value from the value you got at the pump. Between the probes, I got 4.5 ohms so 6.2 - 4.5 = 1.7 ohms. If you have a more expensive reader, that value is 0 maybe, but measure it FIRST, just to be sure.

I solved my isses today after watching videos for one week and no sleep for 5 nights and looking at diagrams 1999 Passat 1.8 turbo was getting spark but no injector signal so it turns out that relay 372 controls the fuel pump BUT ALSO SENDS 12V to the fucking injector green and yellow

Great video, however i have two questions.

So i have gona to the junkyard and thankfully tested there and avoided a bad pump.

Now I have two jettas and s and giggles test them and one is .07 and one i think .08 but they both work!? Because the car is driving now i tested on that is outside the car and it shows .05 and i has worked before so I am confused about the numbers!?

I thought you said anything between 1.-3.is good but then in the end you say .00 is bad and above 3.

Can you give me any insight!?

Thank you

Great video thanks for posting that DIY resistance test on a VW Passat fuel pump I know you say anything between 1.0 to 3.0 is good of resistance and anything above that would mean the fuel pump is bad is that correct? My multimeter shows high resistance in ohms of 5.3 and i replace my fuel pump a year ago.
So does that mean my fuel pump is bad? It really doesn't make any sense that the fuel pump would go bad in a year, the car has been sitting for over 3 months, and I never hear the fuel pump prime since then.

Doing this test on a 2004 Porsche 911 c4s. Has a 4 pin Bosch pump as well. Getting .7 to .8. Would that indicate a bad pump? I can still hear it running.

hy man i have a problem, my pump doesn't sound when i open the door or when i put contact, so my car don't start, i measure the pomp, nothing, dead, i measur the jack with the contact ignition it shows 11v . so? the pump is dead? or the relay? vw bora 1.6 16v

Hi, I did this and got 0.6 which means the pump is bad. Can it be the relay or is it the pump because I also dont hear the pump come on when key is turned but I do have 12volts coming in to the pump?

Pump reads 7.8 resistance, but shoots fuel when hooked directly to battery. FP habeas only reads 1.2 v when priming and cranking. Good ground at harness and good FP relay.
Any advise? What sits between battery and fuel pump that controls voltage?
TY!!

can you explain why resistance must be between 1-3ohm ? i have 50 :) pump still work... i have to change ?

hello, i've got in some truble, all sems fine on my lift pump(voltage/ amps / ohms etc), but, yesterday when I run a diesel purge I saw that there is no fuel coming out from filter lines as is should, what can it be? Passat b5 1.9 PD115 tdi ATJ. thanks

Hi, I have no start problem, since I changed fuel filter. Checked voltage at fuel pump on key on and then start position on multi meter, and it is 12.26amp. So this means no bad fuel pump fuse or relays .when connect to fuel pump and switch on, pump doesn’t make any noise at all. I removed a hose pipe and test with another pipe. When I turn on key, fuel starts coming out. I checked resistance on fuel pump which is around 1.2 or 1. What do you think is it the fuel pump bad because it is not making noise, means not producing full pressure? Please help. Thanks.

this test is the same for a 2001 vw jetta vr6...?

I’m having a no start issue on my Audi A4 B5, I’ve changed the fuel pressure regulator which worked for a day and then the same problem again. I’m unsure whether it’s the fuel pump or the fuel pump relay at this moment, so my relay does click when ignition is on, however I have no way of telling if that’s the issue or not . Anyone with some words of experience ? I’ve also tried removing the relay and putting it back in, gets the car started and then when I switch off again, it won’t start … so I have a strong feeling that it is the relay, have no idea how to tell for sure .. I don’t want to spend the money on a relay just to find out that I replaced the wrong part again
