Nikon D7500 Official Preview: Will This Kill The D500?

Nikon official announces the Nikon D7500. This is the official preview of the D7500 and this new APS-C 20.9 megapixel camera has a ton of features and build qualities of the Nikon D500. But did Nikon kill their D500 in some ways? This D7500 is coming in at $1,250 USD compared to the D500 at $2,000 USD.
The D7500 is going to have 4K video, cropped to center, at 30fps. It's very promising that 4K is coming to more but its needs to be better. The weird thing is removing a card slot. The Nikon D7200 has 2 SD slots where now the D7500 only has one? What? What do you think? Is this a step forward for Nikon or meh?

Note: The D7500 does have 51 af points, the D500 has 153. Just for clarification. This will be available at the end of June 2017.

This is simply a D500 light. If it turns out to be a great as it sounds it might be a mistake to even launch it. I will get my hand on this and safe $750 for glass

Going by the specs i'm actually glad i went for the D500 a month ago instead of waiting.

I think the only way people would chose this over the D500, is because of price.
When I bought my D500, it was either that or the D7200. My main consideration being the dual card slots.
I had a sd card failure in my previous camera last year (the D3300). I thought I had lost around 200 pictures
but eventually by pure luck managed to recover them. Money wasn't really an issue with me at the time so I
went with the D500, which they were doing a deal with the 200-500mm lens and 1.4 converter. I'm glad I did
as the D500 is a great camera. The D750 looks pretty good, but inferior in many ways to the D500.

will you use nikon d7500 instead pf canon 80d for upcoming youtube videos?
I'm confused between this and 4k vs dual.pixel ....which would be better?

Who in the EXACT fuck is making these decisions? Nikon, snap out of it!

I agree, Eric. Not a lot to get excited about here, unless someone was already on the fence with the D500 over price and weight.

My understanding is that it is not the same autofocus as the D500

Ouch. The main deal breaker by far is the SD card slot. Why go back to 20 megapixels? Their 24mp sensors were fine. And I'm not sure but it looks like it from the back view that it's using the smaller viewfinder from the D3x00 cameras. I might be wrong about that though

I think I'll stick with my D7200 as well... Maybe this gets me the D500 faster if it drops the price. The single SD slot is a real bummer and deal breaker for me.

The D500's AF system completely trumps the D7500s AF system by a huge margin. Also the drop in MP and reduction down to 1 SD card is really going to hurt them from a marketing perspective.. IDK what the hell they are thinking..

I'll stick to my 7200 until upgrade to full frame.

Also Eric they removed the feature to allow the add on battery grip.

They aren't hurting any sales of the D500, that's because of the castration. The least that and they can't could've done is if they were going to remove one of the card slots they could've either made it a XQD slot or they could've made it and SD UHS version 2 slot. instead they remove the second slot and keep UHS I. I don't get it, I don't use APS-C sensor cameras but I would feel very ripped off by this. If I were a potential buyer I would just pony up the extra couple hundred bucks and get a used D500 with a low shutter count.

I'm honestly not entirely sure about the version of the SD card slot if anyone wants to correct me, they're welcome to.

Unless you absolutely need the 2nd card slot, which in my opinion is nice to have, or 2 more fps, then this would be a great upgrade from a D3xxx or D5xxx or a great first camera. Don't think it'll kill the D500.

I prefer the control layout of the D800, 810, 300, 200, 500. That is the reason I never got excited about the D7000 series

why is everyone saying that the 7500 will have better AF than the D7200? It's still the old 51 point system but now with group area. Not a game changer. I'll be keeping my D7200 .

NO battery life is less, just one card slot, less AF points. It is a good middle of the road camera not a replacement for the top of the line D500.

This is a camera for someone who wants to step up from a Point and shoot, the 7200 and the d500 are much better camera, anyone looking to buy the D500 like myself will not even consider the D7500, I have the D7200, the D750 and the good ole D300 with battery grip only 10.000 activation's, going to sell it and get the D500.

Nikon clearly targets the enthusiasts market NOT the pros with this piece hence the single SD slot. It has been developed to sit above the DINKY models but not have enough to be in a position to challenge the D500 sales. Something like what Fuji did with their XT2 / XT20 models. Is it a deal breaker for enthusiasts the fact that it carries only 1 card slot? Don't think so. Is it a deal breaker that it does not support AIS lenses? Again no, most of these guys will buy the camera with the kit lens and probably never think of buying another lens ever. 8 FPS, touch / tilty screen, 4K recording, awesome sensor and A/F, amazing ISO performance, and expeed 5 awesomeness, these are the points to make it an attractive option for NON PROs, and I think it will do very well. If anyone needs more features in a camera then they will simply have to opt for the D500 full stop.If anyone expects that Nikon will include everything that the D500 offers in a cheaper version it will NEVER happen, Just my two cents.
