Backlashing when using a baitcaster is very frustrating. In this video I'll share some of the things I do to minimize backlashes and make you more efficient.

Here's some of the equipment I use:

For Spinnerbaits, Chatterbaits,

Crankbaits and Rat-L-Traps

Thumb the spool! Too many guys rely too heavily on the breaks and/or reel tension to control the spool speed and don't apply good thumb technique. Thanks for the tips B Lat!

I think the relax and let the rod do the work is the best overall tip. I don’t know how many lures I have casted off due to me being to stiff. Great video🎣🤙

Very helpful! People often just talk about the brakes n spool tension to prevent backlashes. Great detail!

Hey B. Lat ... I use braided lineon my baitcasters and spinners most of the time and use a short mono or fluoro leader when I need to. Now branded I fish the salad more than I fish Open Water so braids really suits my fishing Style. I have found that if I loosen up my spool break on the handle side of the real a little more than the conventional wisdom says to do and use better thumb pressure I don't backlash too much. But I will say if I backlash braid it's a pain! It cuts right into itself the next a little harder to get out.

I have most of my problems with braid. I like to think that I have mastered mono, but I am a freshman with braid. I will not use braid into the wind.

Thanks for sharing your tips. I guess backlash (aka "professional overrun) is something we all have to contend with on occasion and anything that helps reduce that possibility is always welcome.

Good stuff. Also I've noticed that if you turn your Rod slightly to the left and point the tip down when you're casting hard it creates a little resistance and helps reduce a chance of backlash.

Just wanted to add one more thing on the advice here I also pre treat my line on mono the night before I go out to help reduce backlash Also helps remove the memory out of the line and make it some what feel
Like a fresh new line again so it doesn't spool up in the line.

I can throw a baitcaster pretty far. i just cant cast it worth a darn

Good points, especially about not over powering the cast. A baitcaster can be set up within a hair of going out of control, like a NASCAR at 200 miles an hour.
