The Fight Flight Freeze Response

preview_player
Показать описание
The "fight or flight response" is our body's automatic and primitive, inborn response that prepares the body to "fight" or "flee" from perceived attack, harm or threat to our survival. Sometimes, though, we perceive threat or harm when in reality, things are totally fine.

This video explains how FFF-responses work, what it does to our body and mind, and how to deal with it.

When surprised: freeze
When scared: flight
When wounded: fight

This is a great video I've been recommending for my clients. It is so helpful to understand that scary symptoms are not threatening.

Just before I turned around and thought I saw someone but it was my hoodie that tricked me into thinking someone was right behind me wearing a mask and my fff response was instantly triggered and it was crazy

I've been passing this video on to clients with mast cell activation for years now. It's such a great brief thorough explanation. Thank you!

I never realised I suffered from anxiety, but I have had a dreadful FFF response at the thought of buying my first home. I had been saving for years, then received an inheritance and could afford to buy somewhere. However, I am a perfectionist and afraid of making a 'wrong' decision and my amygdala went in to overdrive. I was overcome with reasons not to even view houses. I looked at some online and saved them as 'favourites', thinking that I could come back to them at a later date when I had decided if I wanted to view or buy them. It never occurred to me that they would get sold and that houses that came on the market afterwards would be more expensive. I thought that that by 'saving' them as 'favourites' was the equivalent of putting them in my online basket. As time went on, the houses were becoming less affordable, but I couldn't work out why, so my solution was to save even harder. As I look back now, I break down in tears sometimes as I really cannot understand how/what I was thinking. I've been priced out of the market and have lost my long-term relationship as a result of me not buying somewhere. Another video on youtube states that in such situations, 'your thinking brain literally goes offline', which is exactly what happened to me. Since my anxiety has been diagnosed this year, it's been horrible. I look back at all the irrational thoughts I had which stopped me buying somewhere when I had the chance (I'm in my 50s now) and realise just how stupid they were (even though my brain convinced me that they were sensible at the time). The moral of this is that the FFF response doesn't just apply to physical threats, but can be any situation that someone is anxious about.

Breathing techniques are so helpful. And videos like this for people who do not understand.

When the killer clowns were around I used to run back home. But once, I was sent to the shops which are quite close but halfway I saw a person standing in a clown mask, I for SURE didn't hesitate to run back home . He pretty much saw me, by the time I got home and looked through the window I saw him looking around and just run straight forward . My heart was pumping hard, mind you I was 12 back then

I have been suffering with many FFF symptoms for months now, dizziness, pounding heartbeat, blurry vision, tension headaches, you name it! I have had numerous hospital tests and even had an MRI scan of my brain because I have been so worried about what's wrong with me. Everything has come back clear. It has taken me 6 months to realise I've been bottling up my emotions & stress for my whole life. It has essentially made my body unable to recognise real threats as I'm always subconciously anxious and awaiting threats so I have FFF symptoms 24/7.
