My 20 strategies to save money at the grocery store.

Inflation and supply chain issues have put grocery prices at an all time high. The prices of many products have doubled, which has make people not be able to afford their favorite groceries. There is one way to combat these rising prices and it is through being frugal.

Frugality is the best weapon to save money at the grocery store and the good news is that all we have to do is make small changes in our lives to save money.

I keep my grocery budget under $200 a month while buying healthy and nutritious foods. In the last few years I have learned many different ways to save money that help me cut my grocery expenses without sacrificing high quality foods. In this video I share 20 grocery saving hacks that save me thousands of dollars a year on my grocery bill.

1. Don't underestimate the pennies

When you go to the grocery store set out to save money at small levels like 10 cents on a can of beans or 50 cents on a loaf of bread. All the pennies will add up at the end of the trip.

2. Understand the difference between a want and a need

A want is things that do not nourish your body like ice cream and candy. A need is something that does nourish your body like fruits. If you are on a budget, start cutting out your wants to save money.

3. Know which stores sell the cheapest stuff

Not all grocery stores have the same prices. Go to different stores to see who has the cheapest prices and shop at those stores.

4. Don't fall for packaging

Sometimes if an item is in a shiny package it could cost 4 times as much, but the only real difference is the packaging. Don't think that since something is in a nicer package it is better because it normally just means it costs more money.

5. Ditch single use items

Items like paper towels, napkins, and plastic bags are a waste of money. You do not need these items and can find reusable alternatives to save money.

6. Only grocery shop once a week

If you grocery shop multiple times a week you will spend more money on gas and buy more foods. Limit shopping to once a week.

7. Portion things correctly

Things like laundry detergent you need to measure them out correctly. You might be wasting money by using too much.

8. Use grocery store apps

Most grocery stores have apps that offer a lot of different savings. Download the grocery store apps to save money.

9. Don't go to the expensive grocery stores

Just because a store looks nice on the inside does not mean that it is better. Don't spend more money because of atmosphere.

10. Buy in bulk

Buy higher quantities of things like toilet paper to save money. When you buy a higher quantity you will spend less.

11. Buy generic brand instead of name brand

Generic brand is 20% cheaper than name brand items and the main difference is usually just the packaging.

12. Eat less meat

We consume too much meat in the United States that it is bad for our health and wallets. Eat less meat and you will save money.

13. Don't buy trimmed meat

Most people only buy boneless and skinless cuts of meat. Take a couple minuted to trim the meat yourself and you will save a lot of money.

14. Eat less desired parts of meat

Chicken breast is the most expensive cut of meat, but if you buy other cuts like the legs or thighs you will save money.

15. Buy frozen fruits and vegetables instead of fresh

Frozen produce is much cheaper than fresh because they do not need to rush it to the grocery store. If you want to be healthy on a budget choose to buy frozen instead of fresh.

16. Freeze food before it goes bad

If you cannot eat something, put it in the freezer before it goes bad and eat it later. You won't waste the food and you will save a lot of money.

17. Refrigerate fruits and vegetables

Fruits and vegetables last a lot longer in the fridge than on the counter. Put them in the fridge so they last longer.

18. Pay with a credit card

If you have the self control to pay off the balance, credit cards offer cash back on purchases. Pay with a credit card and it will add up to hundreds of dollars a year.

19. Don't slack on the healthy foods

Don't try to save money by not buying healthy foods. You will pay more later with high medical bills. Buy healthy foods to prevent becoming unhealthy.

20. Don't have kids

Just kidding...but less mouths to feed.

In light of the ongoing global economic crisis, it is crucial for everyone to prioritize investing in diverse sources of income that are not reliant on the government. This includes exploring opportunities in stocks, gold, silver, and digital currencies. Despite the challenging economic situation, it remains a favorable time to consider these investments.

This is my favorite channel, it’s like watching a younger version of my husband if he had a YouTube channel. I’m always teasing my hubby that he could squeeze a dollar out of a dime, and I bet you can as well. I used to be a crazy spender before I married my husband but now I enjoy watching our savings and investments grow. It’s never too late to learn how to manage your money. I wish I had known what a hole I was digging for myself when I was racking up tons of debt in my 20’s. I’m 15 years from retirement and am glad that I married a frugal guy later in life who showed me how to get my financial sh** together!

Here's a tip for when you are buying berries. They are always packaged in those clear plastic containers. When you get them home, take them out and store them in mason jars and they will last longer. I don't know what the science behind this is, but I know it works.

"Freeze things before they go bad" . i been doing this for decades and it s acually the best money saver in the kitchen. I literally NEVER throw away any food at all, as soon as i m aware i cannot use it up before it gets old, i ll slice veggies n fruits up, sometimes pre-prepare it and freeze it.

I started shopping the Walmart brand for anything I can’t get in bulk. Game changer. I also went plant based two years ago….I easily save $50 per week…👍🏻👍🏻

I did not expect to laugh so hard on secret number twenty. In my case, that's too late. I got three of them.

Here's my trick for saving money at the store: I shop every Saturday, and my shopping list is for basic things we need like milk, bread, Worcestershire sauce, etc., but on that list will be nothing for weekly dinners. I plan our meals while I'm at the store, building them around what's on sale. That is a HUGE money-saver.

Great tips but the one about not having kids might be a bridge too far. But like cars, there are plenty of good quality used kids on the market and many are available in a package deal where you get a good used wife in the bargain. Buy a used house and, presto, you have a family at a fraction of the cost.
I got my kid when he was 9. No disposable diapers to buy and his teeth were in good shape so the largest expenses were food, clothing, little league baseball fees, motorcycles, computers, summer camp fees and guitar lessons. Later on they will need a car but most are happy with you old car, leaving you free to upgrade.
As with most things, a good quality used kid is the better deal. Just maintain it properly and give it unconditional love and it will love you back.

Before I leave the house I always fill my water bottle and sometimes coffee container so I am never tempted to buy something in a gas station or worst... Starbucks.

This dude is bold! He said it: don't have kids. Seriously, he's right you can save tons of money. I decided at 15 if I got married I'd have babies, but no one asked. And yes you'll never miss what you never had!!

I bought a vacuum sealer. I vacuumed sealed cereals grains, rice, beans and pasta. When cans are bogo, I buy what I like. Usually 4. I bought a deep freeze. The best purchase I've made. I Blanche and freeze veggies when on sale or in season. I eat only poultry so I vacuum seal and freeze in small batches. I also have learned to like cold cooked food.
I love cold corn on the cob, chicken legs,
tuna fish, Mac salads, egg salads, cuts back electricity!

I shop at Walmart and noticed their prices on beef and chicken in terms of cost per pound. Luckily I went to my local butcher who was able to beat the cost per pound for fresh chicken and choice & prime beef if I bought in bulk. I did that and vacuumed sealed all of it. The positives are he knows my preferred cuts of meat. We have a solid owner/customer relationship. It’s healthier, tastes better and cheaper than eating out and I am supporting a small business owner while saving $.
