My son went through three backpacks during his first year of HS..My husband finally had it and ordered him the best llbean had to offer..that back pack lasted through the rest of HS, 4 years of college, two years of grad school and traveled to Scotland, China, NZ, basically all over Europe...Yes, it finally broke, The zipper..and llbean gave us 25% off the new backpack..go for the best when HS starts!!!

1. Cut the toothpaste tube in half. You will get at least five more brushing if you do this.
2. When you finish with the milk, put a little water in and shake it. Then use it in your creamer for your coffee
3. Save the bottom of celery and onions. Put them in the freezer for soup and stews.
4. Make hand soap with dish soap. Just water it down in a separate pump container.
These are just a few things you also can do.

GREAT advice...We have gone grocery shopping 🛍 🛒 ONCE A MONTH, since our kids were small...They're almost all now in their 40's! We'd take one child with us, get a sitter for the others, and the child with us got to pick a place to eat out with Mom and Dad, before shopping. Their "special time alone with us...WE found that when we went shopping once a week, we were spending around $500/month more, than shopping monthly ... When things ran out, unless very necessary, we didn't buy anymore till the next month...We need to go to two, or three, stores so we don't look like HOARDERS...But, it's worth it, and we have food all month long. When "something" has "come up", and travel isn't possible, or whatever, we have food for the whole month, at least...and we get extras of some items, for STORAGE, in case HARD TIMES come "into play"...GOD BLESS US ALL. 🙏

I buy a lot of things at thrift stores and garage sales. (That doesn't mean they have to be dirty or broken) - there are so many brand new items at thrift stores these days, clothing with the tags still on them, personal items someone got as a gift and didn't want, etc.

Vinegar is great in wash instead of softener. And does not smell like vinegar. Makes stuff nice and soft. Just no fancy scent.

-Step outside during holidays (Christmas season, Easter, Halloween...) because that's when people more often give out freebies.
-Do some "curb" shopping at the first/end of the month as well as the first/last weekend of the month since that's when people are most often moving and getting rid of their stuff.
-Shop at dollar stores.
-Ask for the receipt then check the bottom for any promotions.
-If it's within a mile and you're not lugging around anything heavy then walk.

How I live frugally; 1) No cable TV, 2) no Smart phone monthly bill (I use a flip phone at $24.99 a month 3) No vacation/trips 4) No eating out 5) No Starbucks coffee outside 6) No bottle eater (we use a Berkey water filter) 7) Cook all of our meals at home 8) Shop the thrift store FIRST! 9) Keep our heat set at 69.

I grew up in 2 different Asian countries prior to my present residency in the States. Never have I experienced such a wasteful culture! I can safely say that these suggestions are mostly commonplace where I came from but would greatly change your game much w the inflation.

One thing I can not get used to is how my American husband leaves the lights and the tv on for hours, and the water on even if he isn't actually using them. I don't even understand why he would turn on the car engine and then dilly-dally with some other stupid things, like his CP, before we could actually get moving.

My recent 45-day visit to Japan even cemented my will to be more frugal as my New Year's resolution. It made me realize how over-priced commodities are in the States in spite of the dwindling quality of Chinese-made products. I have resolved to be as minimalistic as possible, in spite of my love of the French Country style, and buy mostly bc of a need not want. I already have everything I need! Along with helping the environment, I long for that psychological sense of peace with further home decluttering.

A word of caution re: reusing food containers. It's amazing how quickly they accumulate and can contribute to household clutter after awhile! Only keep the ones that you really can use and try to recycle the rest if possible! I can recycle the glass and metal items but don't have plastic recycling available for anything beyond #1 and #2 beverage containers.

I have been buying all my furniture and big items on Craigslist for years, couches, cars, chairs, desk, dining table, hutch, coffee tables, mirrors, beds (b careful on mattresses won't do that again), my son bought a golf cart, bikes, plants, patio furniture, I stay in my area mostly, and I have met some really really nice people. My children have done the same. Just be careful who you do business with, good vibes only.

Many libraries have free museum passes. They also have classes, book clubs, concerts, parent and child groups, low cost printers and faxes, computers, some offer GoPros and telescopes…
Libraries are my favorite way to live frugally, with zero sacrifice.

Excellent. So often these tips are aimed at people who have a lot. And the suggestions of things to cut don't even apply to the average Joe. Very good. Great videao to watch again and again as you get one thing part of your every day life and are ready to add another thing. Thanks so much!

Clean the garage out with garage sales, the attic too. All that stuff we no longer use is just collecting dust. Make those useless items "collect cash" for you.

Sometimes it is better to pull weeds from your yard than having to keep spending money on weed killing sprays, only to have the weeds grow back in a short time. Make your garbage disposal last longer and save on the electric bill by discarding large food waste into a plastic bag for the trash (unless you compost). Don't leave the lights on if you're not in a particular room. When time to get rid of your worn out walking/jogging shoes, remove the shoe laces which are usually still in very good condition, and keep them as utility cordage for tying things down. Unless they are no longer wearable, don't throw out your old underwear. Save them for when you travel, and as each day that passes wearing them, trash them. This will free up more space in your suitcase in case you purchase gifts to bring home. But make sure you have enough underwear to last your trip!
