My grandchildren and I have s small garden and we have been blessed to have an abundance of produce that we harvest and give to our neighbors and we take the rest to our community library food bank. It is an amazing lesson for them to give.

POPCORN...put about 1/4 cup of popcorn in a paper bag. Fold to seal and microwave for about 2:30 minutes. No mess and popcorn is "fluffier" than stove top cooking. Been doing this for YEARS. ❤

Back to the day when people got commodities (1980) people were given a box of powered milk A nutritionist taught me how to stretch my milk budget. Make a 1/2 gallon of powered milk using vertical cold water, mix a 1/2 gallon of whole milk in a gallon container. Shake well. Mixing the powdered with the whole milk instead of a 1/2 gallon you a gallon of 2%. This takes time and practice. My family has been doing this for over 50 years now. If you can afford to buy, and store drt milk, the dry milk should last for a year, that's also using the milk in recipes. Hope this helps.

A bushel of green beans in our area is 60 dollars a bushel! Outrageous 😮 going to Aldi and buy them already canned!

Homemade pantry items instead of store bought. Buy n grind ehole spices. Shop ethnic mlts for spices. Pick fruit from public trees or abandoned farms. Collect n use herbs. Shop farmers mkts just b4 closing. Double coupon days. Seasonal bulk n store. Shop late n day for markdowns. Powdered milk instead of fresh. Buy whole chickens n use all parts.

We have about 6-8 families who garden in our area. Over the years, we have found our "favorite" things to grow. We always share... we are blessed. IE- I no longer grow pumpkins, because one neighbor grows so many each year... I don't need to. It is a wonderful system. Folks age out, but new ones come in. We support each other as we begin the gardening, canning, preserving process. I believe "guilds" like this could work elsewhere . It takes some trust & belief in others in the beginning. You have to stay positive.

Besides corn meal, buy boxes of corn flakes, and put in food processor to make crumbs for breading foods for frying! 😊❤

I would love, love it if our local farm stores were affordable! 1-Beefsteak tomato is going for $3.00lb .. a quart of tomatoes which equals 6-7 medium tomatoes is $6.00.. so no its not cheaper in my area to buy local farm fresh food.

Our farmers market sells higher than the markets in Kansas. I always thought that living in Kansas meant that fresh produce would be more available. The Pacific coast has more variety of fresh foods.

Fresh fruits and vegetables are cheaper in Russia than here in the USA. Check out the Sheekoz family when they go to the grocery store. I think they're still making videos.
