That “90’s” voice you’re talking about, this is the guy. The reason you have that in your head is because of Eddie Vedder. He’s amazing!

Pretty sure many people would say "sensual" is actually a pretty good word to describe Eddie Vedder's voice. Thanks for another great reaction.

Grunge was a lifestyle. The clothes, (thrift store) cars (older used) furniture (found on curb).
In music it translated into being REAL! Nothing fake. Beautiful sounds took a backseat to writing songs that were relatable. Often touching subjects people didnt want to talk about.

I listen to this song (and this version) at least once a week. I have for decades. It’s a masterpiece. Grunge is primal.

MTV Unplugged was always acoustic. Hence the ‘unplugged’.

Pearl Jam is definitely a rabbit hole you need to go down. Eddie Vedder’s voice is absolutely amazing. Would recommend “Yellow Ledbetter”, “Last Kiss” and “Jeremy”

Alive, Jeremy, Even Flow are some of their hits.
My favorite is "Elderly Woman Behind the Counter In a Small Town".

Nirvana and Pearl Jam are the 2 bands that lead the opening of the Grunge movement and sound.

I love how he was surprised that the unplugged version was acoustic 😂

Animalistically evocative voice. Gotta love Eddie Vedder.

That's just what Eddie does. Not one else like him.

Yes. They were extremely popular. I remember sitting on the floor glued to the TV watching this live.

How many times have I've watched this, eleventy billion? Still gives me chills.

I don't think there IS a popular, they have so SO many. There was no gray area with Eddie, still isn't. He puts his all into everything he sings.

I'll leave other suggestions up to everyone else, because there is no bad one. 🙂 I'm so glad you liked it, and I sure damn hope get to see more 💚

Coming from Seattle i always felt Grunge was a movement akin to Punk in the 70's. More stripped down heart felt singing from the soul and putting everything out on your sleeve. No flashy shit just straight in your face rock that moves your soul to tears or joy...no unskinny bop-bop here.

Helene here, Sal. I really “discovered” grunge during lockdown. I didn’t listen to the genre when it was big, being in my forties at the time, those weren’t the stations I listened to. But I’ve come to appreciate and respect the HELL out of those bands from Seattle……my hometown. Grunge, as a genre, I would say is defined by its dark subject matter, its dark vibe in general, it’s anger, it’s hard edge, it’s heavy bass, and a certain style of singing. The vocalists of the main bands are universally great singers…….Eddie Vedder of PJ is the only one still with us. Lost the others to drugs and Suicide. I think that’s why grunge lasted a relatively short time: the music was excellent, but it was so dark and I think people wanted to go lighter after awhile. It’s filled with youthful angst, and most of us get out of that stage after a bit. BUT…..definitely listen to more grunge…it’s excellent rock….Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Alice In Chains, Soundgarden are main bands.
