"How is this even on Youtube?" While it used to play 10 times a day on cable TV

The inspiration came from the tragic story of Jeremy Wade Delle, a 15-year-old boy from Richardson, Texas, who took his own life in front of his classmates on January 8, 1991

This really happened in the early 90's.
A kid named Jeremy self deleted himself in front of his class after years of abuse. It was the "first time he spoke" in class that day.

This entire album is a work of perfection. Pearl Jam is fucking amazing. One of the last bands that lived through the grunge age

The line "The boy was something that mommy wouldn't wear" is a great line like he didn't fit her. Heartbreaking story.

Trevor Wilson was the kid who portrayed "Jeremy" in this video. He did an awesome job. Sadly, he tragically passed away at the young age of 36 in Aug 2016. He drowned while he was vacationing in Puerto Rico. He was swimming alone and got caught in a riptide. RIP Trevor.

Keep in mind that this song is 33 years old. Pearl Jam have been making music that reflects upon social issues from day one and still continue to do so today.

The upside-down flag is a symbol for a country in distress.

The 90s this song was all over the place. It's real music. Real life. Not only have we not progressed, but we've regressed. This song is art.

Yes you can play it through as you should. It's a truth we must all face. Thank you pearl jam. We still dont stop bullying. We either are the bullies or we watch it happen. I knew a child who killed herself too at 12 over the same issues.

I love this song even though the story behind it is so tragic. Eddie Vedder wrote this song after reading an article about a high schooler name Jeremy who took his own life at school because he was being bullied. He also contributed a personal experience Eddie had in junior high to the lyrics.

A close friend of mine went to school at the same school as Jeremy Delle but was in a different class. She didn't see the incident but it's aftermath. She still can't watch this video.
Rest in Peace Jeremy Delle 🌹😢

One of the lyrics that always stuck with me from this song is “Try to erase this from the blackboard” and it just now occurred to me maybe he wasn’t referring to the memory of the incident taking place itself, but what ended up splattered across it. Very dark.

It's crazy when you're watching a reaction, and the person keeps asking questions that you know the answer is coming to. "Why is this restricted?" Oh, Mr Boyd, you're about to find out, just keep watching.

I'm almost 50 years old, still covered in goosebumps with this song. I was a bullied kid, and three kids from my high school self-deleted while I was in school. Once literally in the high school bathroom

This song was really impactful for my generation. People didn’t really talk about this subject before and it opened up a public conversation.

The song takes its main inspiration from a newspaper article about a 15-year-old boy named Jeremy Wade Delle from Richardson, Texas, who shot himself in front of his teacher and his second-period English class of 30 students on the morning of January 8, 1991. Sad Stuff ... Amazing Song !
