DATA:

In this video, we’re going to talk about prolonged fasting and IGF-1. IGF-1 stands for insulin-like growth factor 1. This is a hormone that is made in the liver. This hormone is stimulated by growth hormone, and it acts like growth hormone in the body.

Growth hormone is made by the pituitary gland—it is transported to the liver, where it triggers IGF.

IGF-1 is vital to the growth and development of tissue in the body—just like growth hormone.

If you do prolonged fasting, insulin goes down, and IGF-1 increases to immobilize fat to be used as fuel.

Interestingly, some research shows a correlation between high IGF-1 and increased risk of cancer. IGF-1 is not the sole cause of cancer—it’s only involved in cancer in the way that it helps things grow. It also inhibits apoptosis (programmed cell death), which is an important function in cancer prevention.

Fasting for 3-5 days causes a 30% decrease in IGF-1. This increases the immune system, decreases inflammation, and boosts neuroregeneration.

Fasting for longer than 5 days lowers IGF-1 by 60%, which helps reduce the risk of cancer, diabetes, and overall mortality.

Prolonged fasting is not harmful or dangerous if you do it correctly. In fact, it can help increase your health and improve the survival of your cells.

My next door neighbor is a top surgeon and one of America's largest cities. I did a 7-Day fast and she told me I was going to die. I told her that there is a lot of data that supports fasting plus all major philosophies and religions has a fasting protocol in it. After the initial 2 to 3-day hump I felt great and have lost 60 lb to date. All the best

I remember when I fasted for 13 days. It was very hard, but the health benefits were remarkable. The human body doesn't need to be constantly fed. The food industry is pushing the idea that you have to eat 3 meals per day + snacks. This is bulls*it.

Ok I am on day 4 and planned to eat today but after this I think I’ll go to 5. Thx!

Clarification: It is true that Growth Hormone stimulates IGF-1, BUT Insulin also stimulates IGF-1 so fasting insulin drops and so does IGF-1. So fasting is the key factor because is there is not enough insulin to stimulate IGF-1, then it drops.

Long term fasting is the way to go! Great video. I think this will be the hot trend of the future for big gains in health and longevity. And once you get past the first 72 hours, it becomes much easier.

I know this sounds petty but I want to thank you for making a distinction between type 1 and type 2 diabetes. I can't tell you the silly cents I have had for the past 45 years about how I can reverse my juvenile diabetes. Thank you Dr. Berg

Today I am at my 7th day of fasting. I work late shifts so I don't set my alarm, I wake up naturally every day. I drink three cups of water (one with half teaspoon himalayan salt). I immediatelly take a 2 hr walk, come back and drink black coffee.. and then I do a quick full body bodyweight 10 min workout, drink lots of water, go to my job, go to sleep after. Results? I am satisfied with how fast I am losing fat, I don't feel weakness, I am more explosive.. don't have to poop and I am not that much hungry to be honest. I do think about food but not really because I am hungry, it's simply my natural response of being addicted to processed crap I've been eating my whole life. For instance, I don't think about binging on sardines in olive oil, or baked or cooked chicken breast. If I was actually hungry, I believe everything would seem tasty in my mind. The only problem however I have with prolonged fasting is the fact that it seems like I can't fall asleep easy, and I can't seem to sleep more than 6-7 hours a day. But then again, I am not really tired during the day so I don't complain. Sucking part is I have no intention to do anything other than sleep at the time I am supposed to fall asleep. Not taking any supplements though.. I prefer to avoid them. And I am not drinking lemon water (juice) or apple cider vinegar or tea. From previous experiences, my stomach was rumbling too hard from any of these. Even from black coffee some rumbling occurs but not that much. Not to mention how while I am fasting I feel more productive than usually, and I am not that lazy to do stuff I usually prefer to avoid while I am eating. I am going to try continue fasting till the end of this week. That way I'll complete my 2 week fast, and if I still feel normal, I'll extend it. I am not skinny so having that extra body fat will prove useful to substain energy. Once I drop decent amount of fat, I'll break the fast by having one meal a day which would probably be sardines, some eggs, or chicken breast. I won't even eat vegetables because I have strong belief that reintroducing fiber right away might mess things up. Will leave those nutritious vegetables some other day I guess.

New Sub! I heard about you from another channel . A lot of religions have fasting as part of their religious customs eg Hindu, Jewish, Muslim, Catholic, Buddhism . It was probably introduced due to health religions. Now health experts and scientists are catching up with all these religions . It’s what religious scholars already knew centuries ago.
