Loved your video. I have been making home cook meals for years for my fur babies and I mix it up even with fish. But you are so right with reaching out and working with your community. I also add turmeric and a few others vitamins depending on my fur babies because of allergies etc. They definitely are happier pups❤❤❤

Thanks for doing this YouTube video. Dog food is the skin so expensive, so I came to YouTube to find out how to make my own dog food and you gave me the best pointers. Thank you.

I was raised overseas, where you couldn't buy dog food. Ours all lived on sweet potatoes + mackerel (a fatty cheap fish), or rice + mackerel. Mom would pressure cook a huge batch of sweet potatoes at one time, for the week.

Great video. I've been cooking homemade for my girl almost 4 years 6 months now and she is a healthy girl. I avoid the high starchy carb/sugar ingredients such as grains, potatoes, pasta, lentils, legumes, carrots and peas. I don't feed spinach as it is high in oxalates, so I shuffle through kale, bok choy leaves, turnip greens, collards, romaine and green leaf lettuces.

Here’s a recipe that my dogs love: 12 lbs of meat, 2 C of rice, 2 - 12oz bags of frozen green beans, 2 - 12oz bags of frozen peas, 12oz frozen bag of spinach, 8 carrots, 4 sweet potatoes, 4 eggs, 2 Tblspn coconut oil, shake with Tumeric & black pepper. I also add either beef liver or chicken liver or gizzards or something like that. This recipe has been doubled. Also, I do cook this in a pressure cooker & the meat takes 25 minutes to cook at once (my cooker is 12 quarts😅) and then I cook all the veggies & rice at once for 25 minutes. I feed my dog 1C in the am & pm & this makes enough for around 3 weeks. I do have calcium that I sprinkle into the food from the store for dogs and she also gets a daily vitamin & probiotic. Best of luck with home cooking for your babies. Brandy

I started feeding my dogs homemade dog food years ago really to decrease the amount of poop, we had 9 dogs. Not only were they healthier they live longer than most. We do one meal a day also. Ours is meat, eggs, kelp. Carrots raw are for treats, helps with the anal glands. I've been very creative over the years obtaining meat.

I love making my dog's food! I would add some organ to make sure they are getting the nutrients they need. You need liver plus another secreting organ like kidney, spleen, or pancreas.

New subscriber, enjoying this channel. Love these stories of people moving to become more sustainable especially with what’s going on in the world. I agree, let’s stop supporting the big corporations that are involved in hurting us.
I make my own dog food, I think it’s healthier also. Great video!
It’s sweet how your husband compliments you often.

Thank you so much... I've been cooking for my pups for a couple weeks and have been doing deep dives on nutrition. This sounds great, though I'm reading about them needing ground egg shells (calcium), Zinc and a couple others I can't remember because its way after my bedtime ;-) May I ask what in your recipe is covering these needed nutrients? ~Blessings

Our little poodle began having epileptic seizures around 18 months old; after doing a lot of research, I concluded that excess salt may have been the trigger. That precluded using hot dogs, or cheese, to give him his pills . . . and in going over ingredients, there was salt in EVERYthing - every kind of dog food, treats, etc. So I began making his food . . . and as of right now, we've been several years without any more seizures. He DOES take medication - but it's not the stronger kind that leads to weight gain and health issues, and I've even considered trying to do without it. His food is a mix of 2 lbs.ground beef with 1 lb. ground turkey, lamb or chicken (or venison if available) with 1 med. sweet potato, 1 cup green beans, 1 cup cooked rice and 2 eggs. I shred the sweet potatoes, and put eggs with green beans in the blender, then mix all ingredients together like meatloaf, and use an ice cream scoop to measure and shape the mix. I bake at 350 for 35 minutes on a wire rack in a cookie sheet, and get roughly 48 'servings', enough for 3 weeks (he's fed in the morning and at night). I also wrap raw boneless chicken breasts in plastic wrap, like a 'log', and freeze . . . then thaw just enough to be able to run them through the meat slicer, and put the sliced pieces in the dehydrator - they end up almost like a potato chip, crisp and dry, and both the dog and the cat love them.

Love this recipe. Is this a complete recipe? I’m always worried I’m going to deplete my dog from the specific vitamins and minerals they need. I do not trust the pet food industry at all.
