Dishwasher Won’t Start - Top 6 Reasons & Fixes - Whirlpool, GE, LG, Maytag & More

Reason #1 - These are electronic switches that have a button and wire terminals on each end and a set of contacts inside. This is located within the latch assembly, which is found in the control panel. If the dishwasher won’t start, it could be that the switch is faulty and the unit thinks the door is open, so it will not engage.

Reason #2 - Thermal Fuse: Some electronic-controlled dishwashers have a thermal fuse that protects the control board. This is normally located on the top of the circuit board and includes two wires attached to the fuse. If this part fails, the board will not get power and therefore the dishwasher will be unable to start.

Reason #3 - Door Latch: The door latch assembly is responsible for keeping the door closed and uses the latch strike to secure the dishwasher door during operation. This part is located at the top of the door near the control board. There are several models and some will include just the latch, while others will include the latch strike and the door switches built into the unit.

Reason #4 - On/Off Switch: If the on/off switch on the dishwasher has failed, the unit will not be able to operate. These usually have a plastic body and wire terminals to hook up the electrical connections.

Reason #5 - Touchpad: The touchpad is used to make the cycle selections which then sends the signal to the control panel. It may be built into the console or sold separately. If the dishwasher won’t start, it could be that the contacts have gone bad inside the touchpad.

Reason #6 - Main Control Board: This is the electronic control board that is located in the console of the dishwasher. It is responsible for handling all of the electronic functions of the appliance.

Great video! When I went to remove the control panel to test the door switch, I noticed that the panel was a little loose. The plastic female anchors were all broken and therefore not holding the control panel tight. I tested the door switch since I had it opened and that worked. So I put longer screws in to better secure than panel. Running a test load now. So far, it's working. Will let you know if the lights start blinking again and it stops working.

My portable GE dishwasher won’t start. Several months ago I had the timer replaced. When it wouldn’t start, I checked the basics. Then my husband leaned over the washer to get some coffee and leaned down on the washer and it started. When he stood up, it stopped. I opened the latch compartment and there was a piece of paper in there. I removed it, put everything back together and the washer started. I worked for two loads and then it quit in the middle of the cycle. Now it won’t start at all again. Can something in there be loose? What should I do? Thank you in advance for your videos.

My dishwasher was not starting. Lights were on. Turn off circut breaker for a few second and turned back on. It now works. Reboot the computer first?

I have an older model GE natilus dishwasher with a timer and metal latch assembly. The problem I'm having is it will run for a few minutes then cut off. When it cuts off I have to unplug the washer and wait about 15 or 20 minutes then it will run again for a few minutes. Any ideas on what my issue could be?

Be real . Hold the cancel or drain button down if you don’t have a reset button. Just like restarting a computer, hold the button down for a minute. That’s a restart

It's bad, dishwashers at all, I had one for Costco, before In 3 years broken down 6 times it's repaired and replacement most of parts but not working probably (water from kitchen sink go inside the dishwasher ) I paid for 3 years extending warranty with Allstate after 2 years manufacturer warranty Allstate refused repair
