What a terrifying end to a young man’s life. He started-out his day w/ excitement, and a sense of adventure, only to lose his life in such a horrific tragedy. The other kayakers, who swam to rescue him, without a second-thought for their safety, are heroes, as are the couple in the powered vessel. My condolences to his loved-ones. May he rest-in-peace.

I've had my 14ft solo skiff, with a 5 hp outboard motor for the last 4 yrs. It's basically a kayak, just heavier, and bigger. But the fishing kayaks today, are one man boats. I've been on the ocean all my life with my dad, in the Florida keys, but it's a 28 ft' boat. I'm a bass fisherman, and fish large lakes, and reservoirs. That's it. I've fished in the flats, back country, and mangroves, in the keys in my solo skiff. But, even in a ft of water I've had lemons, bull, spinner, and other sharks, investigate my vessel. I no longer salt water fish. I want to enjoy my boat, and fishing. Not worry about a shark lifting me out of the water. If they want you out, they'll let you know! All these bites, attacks, and other horrible things that may happen are not ANY FAULT OF A SHARK!! That's their home, and if that's your hobby, kayaking, boating, water sports, etc, that's the chance you take. Just as if you mountain bike, hike, camp, hunt, etc if you're attacked that's on you, for taking that risk. We all have hobbies, and it's no animals fault why or what they do. They don't owe anyone an explanation. God bless this young man, and it's sad. 🙏🌊🦈

I once got stranded in open ocean by Decameron resort in panama Central America. The jet ski I rented with my wife die in murky deep waters. It was the most scary I’ve been. The resort rental personnel caught on 15 minutes after the fact, the jet ski was just drifting. Even with power propulsion under your belt, things can go wrong.
