There's no excuse to put patients at risk for infection--do the right thing and cover that probe with a sterile sleeve, and use single-use, sterile gel packets.

And yet after all these decades there still is not a documented decrease in the infection rate by using a probe cover or sterile gel! The better argument for using both is simply medico-legal in the USA anyway. $1.50 for a sterile gel packet and $10 (ish) for the probe cover is cheap insurance if also doing a regen med procedure. If just doing 20611 then it is going to cost you 10% of the reimbursement to use these two things despite no known decrease in infection rate over non-alcohol based cleaners (avoid iodine) and good technique. I agree with using sterile gel but a Tegaderm is usually adequate for most peripheral IV starts. that’s assuming that the transducer is always properly cleaned with the germicidal wipe before and after every use. at least one study done so far shows there’s no increased infection rate using this method.

The problem is US probe condoms are not so cheap and we try to conserve them because if not we run out of them quickly. Unfortunately, hospitals are run by businessmen that only care about $$$. I use tegaderm for simple IVs (i also wipe it down well with disinfectant wipes before).

We do not have those sheets, so we use iodine solution instead gel.

Does anyone have the name of the probe cover used in this video?

Come to India, you won't even find ultrasound machines anywhere in several hospitals. 😢

Are we going to talk about that loose e-tank in the background? 😅

Let's talk about plastic waste, touch free techniques, and consider actual number of infections before endorsing this. Or does this clinician also need a sterile gown, gloves, and sterile drapes for this and every procedure because they're putting the patient at risk? Everything has inherent risk.
