Differences between allergies, colds and sinus infections

Sinus problems affect about 31 million Americans, and lead to around 16 million doctor visits per year. It can be tough to know if you're suffering from a sinus infection, allergies or a cold, especially due to high pollen counts this spring. Dr. Lisa Liberatore, a sinus specialist at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York, joins "CBS This Morning" with some tips.

I struggle with random sinus congestion. It's like the sinus passages swell shut at night when I lay down for bed. It varies from mild to annoying. I think I have an allergy to dust because it's year round.

I thought I had a sinus infection but now that I see all the symptoms compared it seems I have an allergy. I'm self diagnosing but whatever... Imma get myself checked after the exams.

I have twice had sinus infections so bad with no congestion that by the time I figured out I had one it was only because it was putting pressure on my inner ear and made me think I had an ear infection only to find out it was my sinuses and 2 days into meds I had astronomical amounts of mucus come out of my head…. Even on allergy medicine I feel this coming on again as it has in the past but my dr seems dismissive to my previous bouts telling me it’s allergies meanwhile I feel the random ear pain starting like it did before and eventually it will most likely be putting full blown pressure on my inner ear… it’s almost as if I get sinus infections due to my allergies but my dr keeps treating it like allergies because I have no real “clogged” nasal symptoms even though I have explained to her what occurred before. It’s happened twice and now feels like it’s on its way to happening again. I may go to a quick care and try speaking to them about it as a sorta “2nd opinion” from my regular Dr. So that maybe they’ll listen to me as they were the ones that caught it the first time.

Every other USA people are suffering with this issue.. ...Their are bunch of nasal sprays and pills, , all are temporary ...Is there any parmanent solution for this discomfort??

Now i am having so much pain inside my right cheek. So much pain. I searched about this and got this video. And this is very informative. But i dont know what i have actually. All symptoms of cold, allergy and sinusitis i am facing now. So what it can be. Cold, allergy or sinusitis.

Have had a stuffed nose for 2 years. Trying anti fungal nasal spray soon. Tried every spray fr9m afrin to nasalcrom to flonaise to silver nasal spray. Every pill all help temporarily. Used to breathing through my mouth to sleep have to. Taking gabapen ten seems to clear m6 sinuses. Need for another problem with legs. It's a nerve drug hoping sinuses have nerves.

Okay, i have all three types of symptoms.

My youngest had a cold, but due to allergies had to be hospitalized for a week. During that week I got a cold and my other child too. I did not have any symptoms but thick mucus and blowing my nose a lot. Exactly 7 days later when I began feeling much better I woke middle of night shaking with chills and my whole face felt on fire. I had a low grade fever that disappeared by the morning, but noticed I had 3 cold sores under my nose/top lip, which I’ve never ever had prior in my life. Today has been the first day I can smell a little though, but my sinuses feel a lot of pressure. Ironically after a week of my other daughter and I being sick my husband woke with a sore throat and nasal issues today. My youngest who was hospitalized is perfectly fine. So What about someone like me who has some of cold symptoms and some sinus infection symptoms, but nothing too severe? Ugh! I hate taking medication and going to the doctors.

i dont know if i have allergies or sinusitis all i feel is sneezing so much like everyday even i just scratch my nose and then the mucus comes after, followed by wheezing which literally wakes me up early in the morning because i cant breath properly and then it disappears in the morning and wheezing comes back again right before i sleep
