I much prefer this version to the newer ones that added the "ring". And, this not only goes for Alderaan's destruction, but also the destruction of the Death Star in this film *AND* the destruction of the second Death Star in "Return Of The Jedi".

I like the fact that the Death Star explosion and the Alderaan explosion were deliberatedly different. This one is dirty, ugly, in slow motion. More dramatic. The other one is more cheerful, almost like fireworks. They are telling the story with the special effects, is not just special effects.

Maybe Vader listened to Tarkin because he was scared of Palpatine if Tarkin reported him? Even if Vader killed Tarkin to stop him reporting him to Sidious, Palpatine would've found out via Tarkin's absence?
