For those that are interested, the second style of explosion is sometimes called the "Praxsis Effect." Because it was first used in Star Trek VI for the destruction of the Klingon moon of Praxsis.

I remember seeing the original trilogy remakes in the theater in the 90's. At Regal cinema with surround sound, the Alderan and Death Star explosions shook the whole theater, it was SO EPIC!!!! Definitely like the enhancement on this one.

Trivia: George Lucas was limited by technology in 1977, however, in 2011, he was able to create a better explosion by constructing a real Death Star.
