The bracelet scam: basically they put the bracelet on you as a “gift” but then once it’s on their demeanor changes and they start demanding money for it!

Another tip on a quick lunch…don’t sleep on food from other cultures in Italy. Of course you would think, I’m in Italy! I want to eat Italian food! But when I studied abroad in Florence, there was a Chinese food place a few blocks away that had the best Chinese food I’ve literally ever eaten. It’s been years, and I still sometimes have dreams about that Chinese food.

My point being…if a place looks good, try it! It will probably be really good. 😊

And don’t write your Airbnb host a bad review for not having an AC when you didn’t read the description 🤦🏼‍♀️

Definitely be aware of scams, especially in touristy areas. Don’t sign anything, don’t get out your money, and don’t follow anyone anywhere. A lot of scammers target tourists specifically.

Also beware of pickpockets in big cities, not just in Italy. ❤

Between 3pm to 7pm italian people WORK. Isn't like italian people Wake up eat at bar and restaurants, go home, 😮and go out to dinner every day. PAUSA is the colloquial term used by cooks and staff at restaurants to indicate the period where are closed to clean and prepare the food for the dinner service and is alle because people don't go to restaurants at those hours. Anyway great advice

Omg the bracelet thing is so important. We were at the Vatican last month. While we were just trying to take pictures a man kept trying to push bracelets on our wrist. We kept saying no trying to ignore him but he managed to get one on my friend and then basically threatened her to give him money. Stay strong say no and keep your hands away from them

In Florence if you see pictures/paintings on the ground don’t step on them it’s a scam also know the exchange rate I almost got cheated out of my correct change. *Also take lots of small euros not large bills as they don’t like giving large amounts of change or they just don’t have that amount of change

My boyfriend got sucked into the guys handing out bracelets in Rome. I was so annoyed with him! They aren’t even nice bracelets, I was like stop talking to him!!!! We are Canadian so he was just being polite and talking to him. He said he equates it to giving money to homeless people so he didn’t mind. Lol 🤷🏼‍♀️

You forgot something important: don't travel to Italy during August. 90% of Italy goes on holiday for Ferragosto. Only super touristy attractions are open, but you'll be sharing those attractions with all the tourists AND Italians. Almost everything is closed or extremely crowded. It's also hot and muggy. Wait until September.

Do not use theFork please. Ive talked about this with my local restaurant owners and they always say that the fork takes a cut, but they keep using it just cause it gives more pubblicity. If you already know the restaurant just call them, you always find the number online. And if you have to book it might be just a famous really good restaurant, or it might mean that you are going to tourist restaurants wich are not great usually, asking the locals usually gives better results and less visited and better restaurants (idk if its her case, you have to book for good non-tourist restaurants too sometimes so yes, and maybe she already knows people from Italy, and im guessing she already lived there for long enough or she had a good plan when she went to vacation idk)

I agree with these! I would also mention that if you go eat or drink out with friends even if you mention before ordering that you will pay separately, most of the time they will "force" you to pay all together. Bc of this, It's important to be prepared with enough cash and money on the card as well, so when you are all going to pay, it's easier to collect everybody's money for the pay after finishing the meal/drink.

I hope it's not that difficult to understand. My English is not perfect, sorry.

Its a common thing in smaller towns in India too .people close down shops in the afternoon, go home, have lunch with family and take a small nap and come back open their shops by 6 😊

As someone who lives in Europe, Spain to be more exact, it is common to find ac in more hotter climates. Its not like we just walk around sweating. We have fans and blinds, and ac - and also a siesta to relax at home during the hottest hours of the day.

Room temperature/ hot drinks are a lot better in summer. You feel the outside heat a lot more when you drink something cold.

Yep although I haven't gotten to Italy yet, southern European countries live with that siesta or pausa(?} in the middle of the day. And then eat dinner at like 8pm and you as a tourist can wander the streets hand in hand with your SO late in the evening and take it all in since they stay up late. Get that nap in the middle of the afternoon and it puts you on the same cycle as the natives. This is just the way it is around the mediterranean.
