What’s one thing you never leave on a trip without doing first? 🤔🗺

Reduce the hot water tank temperature to vacation. Shut off the water valve to the washing machine. Some people shut the water off. Turn off the garage door so it cannot be opened by a remote but can be used by only the switch inside. Lock the outdoor perimeters (fences, sheds). Charge all surveillance camera batteries and have extra for friends to change.

I learned a long time ago that you should travel with things you wouldn’t miss if they were lost. This lesson came from older generation relatives who survived the evacuation of Manila during the invasion of the Imperial Japanese Army during World War II. They had to leave with only the clothes on their back.

Having said that, I thrift shop clothing and luggage. Being in a large metro area, I have found once used REI travel luggage and clothing at local Goodwill stores.

I keep one bag packed for summer travel and another bag for winter travel, that way I don’t have to worry about finding something around the house.

Great YouTube channel. Some really good and interesting advice

I book my pet sitter as soon as I know the dates of my trip. This is the most difficult part of planning for longer trips since my dog can’t be boarded 😂

Bug repellent. Needed that when I traveled SE Asia. However! The Off I packed was like nothing to those mosquitoes. It was only the local stuff that did the trick. Buy bug repellent at your destination.

I have duplicates of everything in my toiletry bag (razor, toothbrush, even extra contact lenses). I restock it before every trip to make sure I have enough of everything (as they are often travel/trial sizes). The one thing at the top of my list though is my eye glasses as I'm often using them right before I leave and they're not packed. Also, don't forget a belt(s).

Don't forget that most basic things can be purchased when you get there. We have toothpaste and sunscreen on the other side of the Atlantic, too, I promise! 😉

Don't forget to buy/pack compatible electric plug adaptors for the country you're visiting.

The best tip for charging items short time before you leave: put the item on your luggage/purse. You remember easily on your bag and so you don’t forget your gear too 🤓

If you wear glasses take a spare pair. Trying to get frames fixed in Cusco the night before heading off on the Inca trail taught me that one. The optometrist ground down my lenses to fit new frames.

I learned that you can buy toiletries where I’m going. I work for the airlines and always have my travel chargers and such as I have a set for my need on board bag.

Y’all should look into testing base layers for cold weather. You’ve got merino and synthetic materials to pick from. They extremely packable and are crazy warm for their weight. For me, winter travel would be uncomfortable without one.

I take a Sea to Summit inflatable pillow and use a t-shirt on it as a cover. In this way, I’m adjusting to only one pillow. I leave AC on Dry at 72 and set-up two fans…no need to inconvenience my friends or family.

How dare you call my tablet and headphones “nonessential” !? Haha

But I guess I get the point lol

Great video guys! Using it as we speak, doing a 4 day weekend at Vegas starting tomorrow.

I’m going home to Seattle in 2 days, so this helped, a lot. We almost forgot our phone charger last time, when we came here for a month to California, so you helped me remember! And, we’re dropping off our pets tomorrow, so we don’t have to worry!

If you’re going to be renting a car at your destination and will be relying on app navigation, make sure to grab your phone charger and phone mount from your car! (And grab your sunglasses from your car if that’s where you keep them, too).
