Connecting with your #innerchild is hard work!

Especially if you experience structural dissociation, which can cause protective parts of you to block your adult self’s access to the child part.

But just being it’s hard work does NOT mean it’s impossible.

Some ways to support this work are:

➡️ Join the Resistance - notice the function of the protective parts and thank them for helping you when you needed them. Often those parts do not realize the danger is over so they don’t have to work so hard.

➡️ Gentle, gentle, gentle! Be easy on yourself, avoid critical and judgement thoughts and comments about yourself, which can deepen the distance between your parts.

➡️ Strengthen the adult self - simply notice when you’re in adult mode - checking the mail, driving a car, paying a bill, etc., and say “this is my adult self in action”. This helps the other parts realize that there is now a competent and capable adult (someone who probably wasn’t around back then, hence why those parts developed in the first place)
