In this muscle up tutorial FitnessFAQs will teach you how to muscle up. Daniel will discuss 3 reasons why you can't muscle up.

When it comes to training for the muscle up, technique is very important. One of the topics covered in this video is the pulling range of motion. Beginners often make the mistake of pulling straight up and down. When you train your pull ups specifically for improving muscle up technique, you should do so in an arc, or pendulum fashion.

Next up is doing slow reps and too many in your sets. There is no need to build endurance beyond a certain point. Instead, you should focus on power training in the 3-6 rep range for several sets. This will directly aid in muscleup progression.

1. Losing some bodyfat
2. Working in explosive pull ups
3. Working on 321/4321 (wide, chin up, narrow) able to do 4321 is decent enough
4. Once can do 1 muscle up do sets of 90seconds - 1 muscle up/rest 15/20s, another muscle up/rest
Gradually reducing intraset rest time to 5/10 sec. Very effective way of training instead of a 3/4 continous reps since fatigue is minimal but neural drive is maximal

"Come on guys, if you've made it this far, leave a thumbs up." Instantly felt guilty for using the rest of the videos for progress and not liking them. FitnessFAQs keeps me going!

I've failed several times to push up from the bar after getting on top of it. Never underestimate fatigue.

I love your cover-the-basics-first approach to training! I'm 46 and need to spend much more time on staying healthy on top of getting stronger than I used to. Your videos cover both aspects. That's why I hardly watch any other calisthenics channel!
Much love from CH

Going to get to work on this tomorrow. I think you are right as I really struggle with muscle ups because only do high reps of slow pull ups. Will let you know how I get on in a few weeks👍
Your back lever video where you explain shoulder position was the hidden link I need to start properly progressing with back lever.

It is by far the most important element of training which you just highlighted here "Slow Power Movement".This surely encourages muscle development and discourages old " more repetition technique", which you described as a flaw and not a strength making technique.I really thank you.

Hi Daniel. Would it make sense to train a set of each?

A) explosive movement 3-5 reps
B) low rep strength exercises 3-4 reps
C) followed by a movement in the 6-12 rep range
D) finishing off with a movement of 12+ reps.

Like high pull-ups, OACs, regular pull ups and Australian pull ups

So much truth in this video. Great quality content as always, Dan. Specificity is king when training, explosiveness is the single most important pre-requisite for a good, smooth MU!
