I recently travelled to China and it was completely different to how it is portrayed in the media in the West, really made me think about what narratives and biases the media wants us to believe

In fact, it is rare to see police officers in China. The uniformed personnel you generally see on the streets are usually security guards, traffic coordinators, and auxiliary police. They are not police officers. Most of the surveillance cameras on the streets are for monitoring traffic violations. These cameras are used to capture instances of speeding, illegal lane changes, honking, etc. Security checks in subways and high-speed trains are implemented to prevent bad actors from carrying knives, flammable, or explosive materials onto trains, ensuring the safety of passengers. In the end, I can only say that we are all ordinary people; no one is really paying attention to what we are doing. All these measures are in place to prevent bad things from happening, and I think that's a good thing. Why Chinese girls can go out to eat barbecue in the late at night, but Indian girls dare not go out on the streets? This is because of security. Even in US, women don’t dare to go out on the streets late at night.

I was in Chengdu July q
1993 with a Tibetan Lama friend on our way to Kham province, Eastern Tibet...the transformation in 30 years is mindblowing...the city is completely transformed and upgraded to an almost miraculous degree

You are so right about how people go out as a family. I lived in chengdu and loved it. I miss most going out for walks after dinner. Chinas cities are built to enjoy them
Huge benefits for mental and physical health and bring apart of community.
I cant wait to return.

Always so relaxing to watch your videos. No hectic, no big show, no artificial high frequence bla bla like at other channels. Just normal and authentic with a calm voice.

Hey Gabi! Welcome to China. I have lived here for 10 years and over the last few years the amount of foreigners here has dropped massively, so I am not surprised that you haven't seen many foreigners. I live in Nanjing, but right now I am staying with my mother and father-in-law in Yangzhou. Yangzhou is a wonderful city with the whole downtown being unique compared to most Chinese cities because there are no high rises and there is about a square mile at the center of the city that is still traditional alleys - It is a very unique experience for that reason. If you travel to other Chinese cities you will notice that they are almost indistinguishable from each other because of all the malls and major squares. At the beginning of your video, I thought you were in Guangzhou because many spots in Chengdu really look similar to what the downtown of Guangzhou or even Shanghai look like. Enjoy your time in China!

I love how brave you are to get involved and engage with locals, even when you don't always know the rules/ culture/ language etc. I know that isn't always easy and you never show any judgment! Really interesting and good advice too! Helps people to do the same! Nice one Gabi!

I lived and travelled a lot in China and yes the chinese are great. Very friendly and welcoming people. You should go to Kunming and then Dali. Dali is very beautiful. China is so varied, Chengu is so different from Shanghai for example, it's like another country.

0:00 Never heard of not allowing filming on square(or public space in general). Chinese influencers do Chinese tiktok all over the places.

Weird, it's not a typical thing. Anyway, welcome to China, take it easy and enjoy.
