A Chinese warship came within 150 yards of colliding with American destroyer USS Chung-Hoon during a joint Canada-U.S. mission sailing through the Taiwan Strait. The close call was captured on video exclusively by Global News onboard HMCS Montreal. ‘The West Block’ host Mercedes Stephenson speaks to retired Vice Admiral Mark Norman, former commander of the Royal Canadian Navy about the incident and the implications.

Plus, opposition leaders are calling for special rapporteur David Johnston to resign after he ruled out holding a public inquiry into foreign interference. Mercedes Stephenson sits down with NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh and NDP MP Jenny Kwan, who learned she was targeted by China, to discuss the NDP’s next move and the consequences of government inaction.

Yeah they might be provoking but the US warship being so close to China could also be seen as a provocation. I would like to see how the US would react if Chinese warships would sail around the Gullf of Mexico for example or anywhere near the US

"Provocative" is foreign warships traveling halfway across the globe to Taiwan Strait where they have no business. What would happen if Chinese warships travel through the Strait Of Georgia?

"The Strait of Taiwan is Chinese territorial waters and that goes to the history and the politics of Taiwan. But the reality is that it is international waters."
I'm confused. Apparently, history and politics are not part of reality, then what is?

These warships are there to threaten and provoke. How do you expect Chinese navy to react?

If you really take this as serious as you claim then now is your time to have an early election. I think for most of us Canadian citizens are absolutely certain we want Justin blackface trudeau and his gang of laundering thieves out immediately.

We should distance ourselves from the neverending needless rabbitholes the US wants us to go down with them.

Remember, China warships will sail in west cost of North America in the name of free navigation according to international law!

The point is that this happened on China’s doorstep but tens of thousands of miles away from the USA.

My question is, Where did it happen? Near the American coast or near the Canadian coast? Did the Chinese come to practice next to America or Canada? Gentlemen, be at least a little objective. Americans are causing a conflict with China, everyone already knows that, the second question is WHAT IS CANADA DOING THERE? DO CANADIAN CITIZENS AGREE WITH WHAT THE MILITARY IS DOING?

The US and Canadian ships were in joint mission was searching the 9-dash line of China's invisible sea territory.

So how would you feel if Chinese ships start cruising close to the cost of Canada for no reason?? Would you welcome them??

The thing that is dangerous, are people that follow orders without thinking about what if it was, one's self on the other side. And willing to hurt someone that they never even met, or truly know a thing about.

23:05 naaa. As stated earlier. Those held under this umbrella of foreign interference are suspect.
Like come on. We have multiple prc state owned oil companies in Alberta that benefit from continued tensions with Ottawa over clean energy technologies.
