Amid pressing global security concerns, experts are sounding the alarm over how prepared Canada is to deal with modern-day threats. They say the federal government’s reactive response to recent foreign interference allegations points to the urgent need to update Canada’s national security strategy. ‘The West Block’ host Mercedes Stephenson sits down with Vincent Rigby, former national security advisor, and Ward Elcock, former CSIS director, to discuss whether it’s time to rethink our approach to national security.

Plus, the Alberta election campaign has hit the midway point with dozens of wildfires still raging in the province. The unexpected provincial state of emergency has led to changes on the campaign trail for NDP Leader Rachel Notley and UCP Leader Danielle Smith. Ahead of the leaders’ debate, ‘The West Block’ host Mercedes Stephenson speaks with former Calgary mayor Naheed Nenshi, pollster Janet Brown from Janet Brown Opinion Research and former Conservative cabinet minister Monte Solberg about what the leaders each need to do to win in this tight electoral race.

Canada has a lot to learn from Australia 🇦🇺 in dealing with the *thuggish Chinese regime.*

*Openly giving threats* to the 🇨🇦 Canadian government, a G7 and NATO member,
the Chinese regime shows how unbelievably brazen it is when caught red-handed.

Politics set aside, Danielle Smith is doing everything possible for Albertans. It is so easy for those who are sitting on their butts looking for ways to bring down the the Premiere. What I am hearing here is a certain bias by some want-to-be premieres. Remember if the NDP wins Alberta will lose its natural resources to the Federal Government, taxes will rise, and let’s not forget that Notely is the big Union’s poster person so Education and Healthcare will be their priorities. While Danielle was implementing sound solutions to critical issues, Notely was advocating for Filipino and Somali curriculum in our already financially burdened public schools. Let us not forget that in the midst of the most devastating fires in Alberta and as Premiere she had to devote her full attention to the requests for additional resources from all over Canada, the follow up on evacuation plans, daily public updates, and the ongoing public discourse that is always present during such critical and unforeseen events. With elections only weeks away, Danielle also had to continue with her campaign agenda and public gatherings to ensure that she maintains her voter base. One would have to agree that fatigue had to be a factor to just get through a day. However, what was Notely doing during this time, other than putting out vicious attacks on the Premiere through media and radio. While Danielle worked diligently to deal with what was put in front of her, Notely was sitting in town-hall events building her election campaign. Hopefully those voters sitting on the fence will see that Danielle’s interests are for all Albertans and the preservation of Alberta and its future.

believes that voting for Notely will help Alberta,

19:49 we have many parties we can vote for. In a democracy, it isn't about picking the lesser of two evils. I would totally be down to see a coalition government!

Would be great to have journalists from CGTN interviewed, Einar Tangan, Lijinjing, Martin Jacques, Cyrus Janssen. RT International, Peter Lavelle, George Galloway, Chris Hedges, Richard Wolff, iearlgrey, Eva Bartlett. How many countries are joining BRICS 19+5+? Leaving oil reserve currency.

If the canada leader's hand is not clean. How can canada fight foreign interference?

Well when people put profits above National Security, it is more about economic greed than collective failure.
However I can see how it is seen as collective failure across all domains and all levels of government. Municipal, Provincial & Federal.
