The West Block: June 11, 2023 | Canada to name new foreign interference advisor

Special rapporteur David Johnston quit his role investigating foreign interference, citing a “partisan atmosphere” around his appointment. The move comes after opposition leaders passed an NDP motion calling for Johnston to resign.

Canada’s Liberal government has defended Johnston’s integrity and says it will work across party lines to find a new advisor on foreign interference.

“The West Block” host Mercedes Stephenson sat down with federal Intergovernmental Affairs Minister Dominic LeBlanc to discuss whether the government will heed the opposition’s calls to hold an immediate public inquiry.

Plus, Canada is facing its worst wildfire season on record. So far this year, there have been almost 2,400 fires, and more than 400 are still considered active. Hundreds of Canadian Armed Forces soldiers have been deployed to help, at a time when the military is already feeling the strain from limited resources and personnel shortages.

“The West Block” host Mercedes Stephenson sat down with Defence Minister Anita Anand to talk about the role of the CAF during disasters like this wildfire season and some of the other major challenges facing the Canadian military right now.

Dominic, the best way for the “ liberals” to restore our “ public trust in government” would be for your whole liberal cartel’s resignation

We the Canadian people need a public inquiry and if not then liberals need to step down they are the ones who are covering up!

Instead of shipping in firefighters, wouldn't it be easier just to find the arsonists and make some arrests?

Another friend of Trudeau coming right up folks. Smh.

I reject these claims of partisan attacks. If calling someone a ski buddy is an attack, then the threshold of the word attack has become too low.

Hey Dominic it's not the opposition's fault for creating a "poisonous" atmosphere.

Why are taxpayers paying for Trudeau and Freeland to be there, and how much are they spending

Perhaps somebody should point out to Minister Dominic LeBlanc that David Johnson was a better friend to justin trudeau for taking on the job he was asked to do, than justin trudeau was to David Johnson for asking him to take on the job .

With Johnston stepping down, I wonder which friend of the Trudeau family will replace him. 🧐

I suggest Han Dong as the new Foreign Interference advisor, as he seems very knowledgeable on the subject.

No wonder they have trouble with recruitment when they need to supply their own food, shelter and equipment without timely reimbursement

With a woke military culture, you are going to have a recruitment issue. Maybe they will figure that out one day.

“we think there should be a public process going forward!” Mr minister, why did you have to wait this long to decide a public inquiry should be on the table? What took so long? I’m sorry but Canadians have lost trust in you…

Canada should hire a special repertoire of foreign interference from the CIA, which has the most experience in the area of foreign interference.

Just wondering when these strengthening measures were going to be implemented. Only after this issue became public or was this in the works prior?
