My ex was Mormon and had numerous affairs, but I was the bad one because I drank coffee 🤦🏼‍♀️

The ending “all while wearing a tank top”. The tank top being breaking point is 100% relatable.

Mormon morality can be amusing. When I lived in the Salt Lake City area, I remember these jokes I was told by a fellow Mormon. The thing is there is so much truth in it:
#1
A young woman came home for Christmas from her freshman year at BYU and some bad news for her mother. "Mom, I have something to tell you...I'm pregnant". Her mother was shocked but almost instantly replied "Well, you're just going to have to marry the man who got you pregnant." The daughter replied "Mom, I can't marry him, he smokes".

#2
How do you know the mother of the bride at a Mormon wedding?
She's the one who's pregnant.

Anyhow, I think people who have had morality dictated to them by the church all their lives just can't understand how someone can leave the church and still have good morals. Also, the word of wisdom seems to be almost as big of a hang up with church members as sex. It is a very amusing to look at this from the outside as an ex-Mormon.

You do great work nuancehoe!

Actual real-life boomer Mormon mom comment (spoken to her gay daughter the day she announced she was marrying her girlfriend):
"I love you, but I don't like you right now"

This resonates with me. My dad literally has bookshelves filled with church literature and nothing else. The man hasn't read a non-mormon book in over forty years. No wonder it's hard for him to use logical reasoning

This is just a bit related, but when I came out as bisexual to my mom asked me to not get into porn, and then she went on and on about pornography and why is bad. I never mentioned porn, I don't even like porn. Of course she ended up saying that the LGBT lobby was a business, but changed the subject when I asked what exactly was the business model (how did they make money).

Whenever i talk to mormons they end up saying "we cant prove that gravity is actually what we say it is" or "how do you know were not in a dream" and "i value truth but god is truth" and i think I'm making progress with one of my friends and she eventually said, "i want god to be true." Pretty good if i do say so myself 😎

I was Mormon growing up, too. My parents are pretty orthodox, but much less severe than this. When people who were never Mormon would comment stuff about the church, I used to always respond emotionally/defensively, based on my (mostly positive) experiences with the Church. Experiences like yours help me take a step back and say "just because I didn't experience that doesn't mean it isn't alive in church culture, and isn't fed by the same too-strict, homogenous thinking that the Church encourages."

My sister inlaw is from Idaho. Her husband and all of us are from New Zealand. Hes in a Stake Presidency.
She is sensitive over the F - bomb.
She asked our neice for a suggested ringtone for her phone. Our neice downloaded The Angry Indian on her phone.. " He says : " ANSWER THE FUCKING PHONE FOR FUCKS SAKE!".... our sister inlaw started crying.

That’s pretty nice that they still watch your kids, that their love for you & them isn’t overcome by the fear of associating with “apostates”. Also gives you ample opportunity to chip away the conditioning. There are 2 kind loving people under all that and if you didn’t believe that you probably wouldn’t even try. It’s so hard and I’m glad you’re not giving up on them without a fight.

Carah, this is my "favorite" exmo YouTube or TikTok ever... I mean ever. Well done.

I love you, keep up the good work, stay healthy, you're OK and you're going to be OK, and that is completely irrespective of your parents. You grew past them.... At some point, as you know, (but for everyone else) we have to realize that we're not responsible for our parents stupid belief system.

Try to be compassionate with them, though. Remember, somewhere in the middle of your mother's psyche she DOES realize that she's been bamboozled and she can't handle it; so she suppresses it. My dad is 90. For most of that time he has been supporting and teaching mormonism. He responds in the same similar ways to your mother, because he can't handle being bamboozled for such a long time, and not figuring it all out on his own... he has suppressed things. I feel very sorry for him. When I explained my way through the CES letter for him, he accused me of dropping an atom bomb (yes, true story) on the kitchen table. Seriously. Yes, he and my family, and their friends are as nutty (certifiably) as loons. I don't care if its an adhominem, needs to be said. But, I still love him. I feel sorry for him. I'm patiently waiting for him to approach me and say, "tell me more about the anachronisms of the BOM, please, I really want to know".

My favorite is when a 500 lb Mormon is critical about me drinking coffee, but it's totally cool to overeat until you die.

All of these are so great! I appreciate the subtitles you have on some of them, that’s helpful.

It’s so weird coming out of that way of thinking, like giving a moral value to tank tops and coffee when those are so neutral. Even though I don’t care about the WoW anymore it’s hard to break those rules in front of my husband because he associates it with being a good person.

I can't believe how religion can turn parents against their own children! BTW, I love your sense of humor!
