Never trust a man who introduces himself with a rat-cannibalism anecdote.

"What makes you think this is my first time?" "Oh Mr. Bond!" best set of lines in this movie

Out of all 007 villains, Silva is the most significant antagonist that pops to me the most. He nailed this role. A heart broken, vengeful, former agent filled with anger. The most personal purpose out of the rest. I love it! My 1 favorite 007 film.

One thing i really liked about Silva is how he genuinely had a bit of compassion for bond. He showed bond that M sent him into the field even though he had failed his tests and was not fit enough for duty. He is also sympathetic to Bond when he sees the bullet wound on his chest another courtesy of M

Javier Barden nails his performance in everything he does. He has a voice and a presence. He caught my eye in No Country For Old Men and everything else he does, he is very memorable.

I don't know if Silva was bisexual, homosexual or any kind of sexual at all. It doesn't matter. His intent was to freak Bond out, to make him insecure and shake his footing. When Bond, the avatar of classical masculinity, responds that he has no issues with this scenario and that there is nothing un-masculine about homosexuality, Silva is instantly rebuffed and switches tactics. He starts to exploit Bond's relationship with the women he cares about, namely Severine and M, knowing that is his true weakness.

Henchmen: "Oh for fuck's sake, is he telling the rat story again?"

Javier Bardem is one those actors who, as soon as he enters the frame just says "This is a nice scene you've got here. It's mine now."

I love Silva's jab at bonds skills when he says "but you're not nearly the agent I was, I can tell you that". His skills gave him a huge ego even though it seems hidden.

This scene with a super long take of Javier talking about rats is just phenomenal in great scripting and especially in great acting.
