When you realize he did that in one take...

Silva was the best Bond villain in the Daniel Craig series. Always will be just that creepiness about him.

I wonder how long Silva planned this, he’d have to get the story completely memorised, time it perfectly with the speed he was walking and how long the walk to where James was, Place James perfectly in position so that he could be right in front of him once the story is over and practice his nibbling sound to make it sound more intimidating

What a brilliant monologue. And of course, Bardem is as usual completely on point.

Is anyone else here because Jordan Peterson tried to tell this story as a fact

“Hello, James. Welcome. Do you like the island? My grandmother had an island. Nothing to boast of. You could walk around it in an hour, but still it was, it was a paradise for us. One summer, we went for a visit and discovered the place had been infested with rats! They'd come on a fishing boat and gorged themselves on coconut. So how do you get rats off an island? Hmm? My grandmother showed me. We buried an oil drum and hinged the lid. Then we wired coconut to the lid as bait and the rats would come for the coconut, and... [imitates metallic scuttering] They would fall into the drum. And after a month, you have trapped all the rats, but what do you do then? Throw the drum into the ocean? Burn it? No. You just leave it and they begin to get hungry. And one by one... [mimics rat munching sound] They start eating each other, until there are only two left. The two survivors. And then what? Do you kill them? No. You take them and release them into the trees, but now they don't eat coconut anymore. Now, they only eat rat. You have changed their nature. The two survivors. This is what she made us.”

Love how the camera stops moving when he says "They only eat rat...."

Excellent cinematography.

Let this be a lesson to all the young directors out there. If you manage to land a top tier actor like Javier Bardem just set aside a 2-4 minute scene like this and let him cook.

Fun fact: Jordan Peterson half remembered this scene and confidently repeated it as a historical fact 😭

The rat thing in retrospect is actually pretty genius.

Cannot believe that Jordan Peterson thought this was a real thing.

It would be easier and cuter to bring cats on the island.

It's not that this is a one-er that makes this impressive; every actor should be able to deliver a two-minute monologue; it's the decision to start him so far aways and let him walk into focus that makes this iconic.

Javier Bardem will always be the greatest "crazy" actor. He does it so well. You cannot argue with his logic, but you can always argue with his morals. The definition of crazy.

Hands down the most brilliant monologue in any Bond film. Clearly, for those who don't get it, he's talking about M's influence on Bond and himself. Truly, it was hard not to empathize and even join Silva's cause, particularly when he was so betrayed by her in comparison with the favoritism she shows 007. He and Le Chiffe are the two best Craig era villains.
