The Karate Kid Part II - No Mercy: After Daniel's (Ralph Macchio) legendary karate fight, Mr. Miyagi (Pat Morita) teaches Kreese (Marty Cove) a lesson.



FILM DESCRIPTION:
After learning that his father is dying, karate master Mr. Miyagi (Noriyuki "Pat" Morita) returns home to Okinawa, bringing his protege, Daniel (Ralph Macchio), with him. In Japan, Miyagi is surprised to discover that his old sweetheart, Yukie (Nobu McCarthy), has remained single. Meanwhile, Daniel is attracted to Yukie's niece, Kumiko (Tamlyn Tomita). But romance must be put on hold while Daniel and Miyagi deal with local bullies and long-harbored grudges.

The irony of yelling racial slurs at an Asian man while practicing a Japanese martial art and having a Korean master, Kreese really is a piece of work. I hope Cobra Kai 5 will give him a redemption arc.

Miyagi never even uses offense, yet he destroys everyone without laying a finger on them.

I love how Mr Miyagi will defend someone who is being bullied. He had to beat up Johnny to save Daniel, but then he saved Johnny when his life was in danger. After watching Cobra Kai Johnny was just as much a victim of bullying as Daniel. In a way it was worse for Johnny because Kreese abused a position of trust. Kreese was the true bully. Johnny was a victim too.

There is one interesting takeaway from this scene- the thing Miyagi says about why he spared Kreese, he may have been referring to himself, because if he killed Kreese he would not have been able to live with himself. Miyagi never considered Kreese as his enemy, hence why he spared him in the hopes he would use it to do serious soul searching.

Miyagi really embodies his philosophy of "Karate shouldn't be used to attack, only to defend." He doesn't put his hands up, and he always waits for his opponent to strike before countering. It's kind of his way of saying "If you want to walk away, that's perfectly fine with me. If you want to continue to fight, I'm ready for you."

Miyagi didn't gain using strength but intelligence, he really is a legendary master who used Kreese rage against Himself. Karate it's Brain above everything.
