No matter where I wander, I always end up in the loving arms of XFCE.

Started with Linux Mint Cinnamon just over a month ago now and tried a few distros in live mode to get a feel for what was out there. Eventually moved to xfce on Linux Mint because I loved the simplicity of it and configured it to be exactly the way I wanted. I can't see me needing or wanting anything more to be honest. Does everything I want and much more than the Windows 10 shitstorm I escaped from. 👍👍👍

First I didn't understood Gnome, but now I am a huge fan. First I installed a lot of plugins but then I understood the idea to use its workspaces instead of taps. Now the desktop is always clean and everything is just a scroll on the taskbar away on another workspace, love how fluid this is.

Hey Chris and community. I'm attempting to learn Linux at age 32. I took it in school with my networking program and loved it... Yet life got busy and I didn't have the time for it anymore. Well 10+ years later I'm picking it up again and I really do like it! I'm using openSUSE Leap with the KDE Plasma desktop. I must say it really is my jam compared to GNOME which just didn't quite grow on me. I hope I don't break my copy like you did Chris, wish me luck because I'm gonna need it and take care everyone! :]

+1 for Solus/Budgie. I've been using Solus for a year now and love it.

Thank you Chris for this video! I was KDE for a long time until their development team changed too much and it became less reliable. The Mint team also realized this and removed it from their distribution completely. I switched to Cinnamon which is very similar, customizable, and rock stable. I can add the KDE programs into Cinnamon and it is also down in the 500 Mb range of usage. My Cinnamon does not look like what you showed. Its cleaner, has transparencies, less "blocky" and I use hot corners to swing into multiple work spaces which makes my work flow extremely fast.

Thank you, Chris. Before Pop's implementation of Gnome and a tiling extension, Xfce was my favourite floating DE. It almost became Debian's default.

Having tested all the Distros and DE(s), my choice is:
Arch + Gnome
Why Arch:
I like having the latest and greatest, AUR is amazing, you can find any app that you want while on other distros it sometimes require you to get a headache to install some apps.
Gnome:
For me the most important factor is the design.
Gnome itself and all the applications that it offers have such a great minimalist clean looking design than no other Distros offers, i also like the workflow of Gnome.

Im more of a minimalist and aesthetics person, i like to have my desktop super clean, everything organized into perfection.

Arch+KDE is my favourite, though, lately, I am very tempted to ditch DE altogether and go full dwm.

I've used dwm for about a week now and I really like how minimalist and tiny it is. I love the fact that in order to configure it, you just edit a c header file and recompile the whole thing. It's so tiny.

using KDE Fedora on laptop. in my long history with nix, when KDE went from 3 to 4 I hated it and moved to gnome then gnome went from 2 to 3 and i hated it. and went to lxde and stayed with lxde for years. on a hunch I tried KDE plasma 5. and not bad resource usage is way lower than what I seen with 4 and it is for sure more polished.

For the ultimate in customization I use Plasma with Arch.

I am a Manjaro user (new switched from Deb end of Feb) with Enlightenment 23 desktop. I have a powerful machine so could use a heavier desktop since it a gaming rig. But I LOVE Enlightenment! So configurable you can make it look and feel like anything you want. Not for new users though. On difficulty 1-10 I would give it a 8 for configuring it, but once configured for looks its like nothing else! Also the File manager it comes with and the hover preview of files OMG so handy to hover and see a list... Beyond words cool! I know you skip over Enlightenment in your vids Chris, but try it out.

I love Zorin lite's aesthetic. It's probably the best (or at least one of the best) out of the box implementations of XFCE imo. I like it to the point where I put Zorin lite on about half the virtual machines I use. (I use a bunch of virtual machines for reasons of compartmentalization.)

Of all the distros I have tried, my top two are (in now particular order) Mint Cinnamon and KDE PLasma. These are the ones where I feel the most at home in and where I am most productive. Just love those two.

Personally I like Cinnamon, Plasma and Deepin as DEs mostly... but I don't mind others at times :) Currently playing with Zorin Lite (Xfce) which is really nice. I was never a Gnome fan but it looks like at least some distros are bringing in a desktop layout switcher with Gnome which, for me, has totally changed the game. The Manjaro Gnome I just installed and set up now looks something like a cross between Cinnamon and Deepin :) And, I'm really impressed :) I hope distros like Fedora include this as well :)

I know it's difficult for new users to Linux to do this. But i've grown to a point where it doesn't matter much for me which distro i'm using. i will always install my own favorite desktop anyhow.
These days i only value what a distro provides to me outside of the desktop, as i never/rarely use the defaults.

My point is that if you love XFCE for example. you can run that on any distro you want. it doesn't have to be `Ubuntu + Gnome` or `Mint + Cinnamon` etc.

KDE was my first DE, but in the long run, I like the reliability of XFCE the most.
