I like to add as many shipping options to each ad, a calculated, a fixed rate and let the customer decide. Some items i will put my own flat rate cost knowing if it ships close i make out a buck, if it ships far i might lose a buck or two. I feel getting the sale and losing a buck in shipping is a better option than long term storage. There are so many ways to ship and set your selling price to make your ad look tastier than your competitors as well. Shipping game can make or break you and or you store. ✌🏼💚✌🏼💚🙏🏻

I do the discounted calculated shipping + a handling fee to cover the additional expenses of packaging cost and fees. It's been a good happy medium where I know I'm covered 99% of the time, but the shipping is within a more acceptable range for the buyer. And I can easily adjust the shipping policy if I find the need. Free shipping is used on occasion, mostly for some smaller lightweight things where the swing of pricing based on location isn't too different.

Ziplock Bags: couple minutes into the vid you mentioned you store in ziplock bags, but swap the items into less expensive bags to mail. Seems like extra effort to do the swap and then clean the writing off the ziplocks. I store and ship out in the thinner mil T-shirt style clear bags that have the suffocation warning. I keep them on hand in a few sizes. No swapping. And even though the Peel Strip Adhesive will never seal as well as a ziplock, my soft goods go in plastic totes with lids, to keep them dust free and clean anyway. When it sells, I put the clear thin bag in a poly mailer or box and away it goes. No re-bagging, refolding clothes or cleaning re-usable bags.

Great information, but the outtakes are my favorite!!!

For the calculated with giving your customer the discount, you can add a buffer for shipping materials and the 12% ebay fees. Simply add like $2 or whatever it should be to the overall shipping cost.

This was a great video. I had no idea that you can do calculated minus a certain percent. Three things I would add that might help folks new to shipping. 1) it’s worth checking how your competitors are shipping and deciding from there if you want to do free or calculated. 2) Sometimes Priority may be cheaper if the person lives close by. This would be if you chose Ground Advantage as your option originally. 3) You can only upgrade shipping and not downgrade. Be careful when choosing Priority as an option because once the item is purchased you are locked into shipping with that service. However, like I mentioned in 1) you can upgrade if you find that another shipping option is cheaper than what you originally quoted. You did somewhat cover that but I thought it might be confusing to a newbie. I have to acknowledge how much work you put into each video and it is very much appreciated. Merry Christmas 🎄 and Happy New Year to you and your family. ❤

I've done calculated passing on my discount for almost 3 years. I'm in Tennesee and can remember hardly ever getting an order west of Texas before I changed it. I try to be pretty precise with my ship weight and size so the price is usually spot on. I would say about 1 out of every 15 orders I may lose a little - but it's very rarely more than 50cents.
Good episode explaing the different options!

Great info, you mentioned free shipping possibly showing higher in search results and I think that’s true, but what I know for sure is that a certain percentage of customers click the “free shipping “ box and those customers only see listings with free shipping, those customers also end up paying more for items because they do that. I personally don’t do free shipping, I do flat rate, some I make a little some I lose a little but I think charging for shipping is best because I sell most of my items on best offers and it’s nice to know that shipping is covered when those offers come in, it makes low ballers not so low.

I use a modified flat rate on everything up to 5 lbs. I’m on the east coast so I calculated what it cost me to ship to California for each tier (4 oz, 8 oz and so on) then rounded to the next $1. So farther states get a deal and closer states aren’t paying full calculated. I’ve 5 lbs I use calculated less 5% discount. I have a shipping policy for each rate.

Free shipping has burned me to many times. I mostly sell media and for a long time I would ship first class because I wanted it to get to the customer fast and safe. I did a flat rate that covered me. When they changed to ground advantage it made it go up just enough I switched to all media going media mail unless requested by the customer. I like to have the shipping there and have offers on that way if it’s a bad buy I can at least clearance it out and not lose money on shipping.

I use calculated shipping and I pass on the full discount to the customer. I used to not pass on the discount to buyers, and then people would always complain that shipping seemed excessive, Since I had no idea how much they were actually getting charged for a shipping, I never knew how much wiggle room I had in the price.

Great video, I have only been selling about 6 months so I use calculated shipping. I like the way y'all explained the other methods. Y'all are plain spoken like me so I understand y'all a lot better than the other YouTubers. Hope you and Teresa and the family have a wonderful Christmas and happy new year!!!

Thank you for all the great shipping information. I really enjoy watching your videos. Have a Merry Christmas

One other option you guys did not talking about. You can do calculated shipping, passing on the discount to the customer, and then adding a handling charge of X amount to cover the cost of your boxes and tapes and packing materials.

Weight is so critical GO HIGHER....if weight is 3.09 that is 4 pounds and better to say 5 if weights wrong then you are charged either the real weight price OR, dimension price (whichever is higher).... making it over twice as much.
