The Life and Death of Alan Turing

Alan Turing was one of the world’s greatest geniuses. He basically invented the modern computer and was instrumental in helping end WWII, even though he never set foot on a battlefield. The Germans had invented the ultimate message coding device, the Enigma machine, and if the Allies wanted to take down Hitler, they were going to need to figure it out. Fortunately, there was Alan Turing’s code breaking park, Bletchley, where he and others achieved movie-worthy feats. In fact, it did make a great film, The Imitation Game, released in 2014 and starring Benedict Cumberbatch as the man himself.

This poor soul. Shortened the war by a few years at least, completely changed the world, and couldn’t even tell anyone of his achievements, or (more importantly) live his life as he pleased.

You would think this would be a situation where as soon as Alan Turing was arrested, some government officials would have shown up at the police station, instructed that all charges dropped and he be let go and if asked why, the response would have been, "Because we said so." Then the whole thing would have been swept under the rug. But no... and it's a damn shame. Poor guy...

So in Manchester every Pride week. His statue which resides in Sackville Park (Near the University of Manchesters and Canal street) - (Manchester's gay district) His stature is filled with flowers as a remembrance and a thank you to the great man. :)

And yet another great figure that until recently was lost to the annals of time. I would not know who he was except for the movie The Imitation Game. Every child should be taught about this man in school history classes.

I used to live near the square in Manchester which has a bronze statue of Turing sat on a bench. It’s located overlooking the gay village of the city. Fortunately times have changed for the better 👌🏼

I learnt about Turing in school and the guy was a British hero, we would have never won the war without him, I am glad now he is getting the recognition

What a remarkable man who helped not only his country but many others. His life ended too early and is rather tragic. Think of how much more he could have accomplished! He was treated quite poorly, to put it nicely. Barbaric is more honest.
