How to Fix External Hard Drive Not Showing Up on Mac - Mac External Hard Drive Not Mounting
I've been running into a problem with my external hard drive not mounting on my MacBook. This pretty much happens every time I unplug it without ejecting it. And in this short video I'll show you how to get your external drive to work on your Mac again. Here's what works for me.
With my external drive plugged in and powered on I'll click on Launchpad. Then I'll search for Disk Utility. The first thing to look at is the left column. I can see that my external drive is recognized but not mounted because it's greyed out. So I'll click on the drive name to select it and then on the top right of the window, I'll simply click the Mount button.
But sometimes the Mount button is greyed out so I can't click it. When that happens I'll run First Aid on my external drive. And this usually makes my drive accessible again. Running First Aid will actually take quite awhile. I've sped up my video but this process took 3 minutes and 15 seconds for me. It could be faster or longer depending on your computer. But once it's done, I can access my external drive again.
And here are some other things you can check if your hard drive isn't showing up on your Mac. Is there power to the drive? You might need to try a new USB cable or even try a different USB port.
