My WD my book gave out! I watched this video and bought a sled! Plugged it in and I am in shock! I can now access the drive and I got my only copy of some critical records back! THANKS! You saved me! Now I am going to buy 2 identical SSD to have as a main drive and a back up! I learned my lesson!

Thank you SO much! You are the man! My 1TB WD 14 years(!) old just started to do that exact noise you heard in your headphones. I crossed my fingers, bought the SATA docking station and it works!!!!

Infinitely preferable to a drive with stuck heads, I'd imagine! Great video!

Thanks for the patient explanation. I have the same sound on my disk. Will the PCB board fail in the event of drops, or should we look elsewhere for the problem?

Thank you for your tutorial because it really helped me! I have an old 160GB My Book that had the same issue where it wouldn't start up but kept chirping. Mine was a different type than in your video because it was a little difficult to open, and the hard drive had that long line of pins at the end (Not sure what they're called). However, I bought a SATA Converter on Amazon that takes 3 different hard drive types and luckily my old hard drive turned on and I was able to save my old media onto a newer and bigger external hard drive.😁

@lapfix do you have to use a sled, can i somehow just use sata and the other cable to use it as a desktop drive? mine is getting disk read error check disk codes, and there's no way to fix it using cmd since it doesn't read as a letter or anything what so ever

Hi. Thanks for the video. I have the same dead hard drive but I have a feeling it is the actual disk drive that is damaged, When I plug the usb into the computer and power it on, it is recognized by the computer and i can see the device on my device list but I cannot open it. I replaced the mother board but that made no difference. Any advice or video on how to repair a damaged disk?

I have the same drive. Just all of a sudden will not power up. Took the hdd out and connected my sabrent converters and it still can't get power. PC will not recognize it either.
Could that be an issue with the pcb on the hdd itself?
Got about 700g on a 1tb drive. Lot's of info on it I really would Ike to get off.
Any idea?
