Have you broken your Seagate External Hard drive port? It's a mystery how it happens sometimes, and a little daunting when you break the only point of connection to plug into a computer.

Fortunately, all is not lost. With Seagate external hard drives, you are able to go in and remove the adapter that connects to drive, allowing you a secondary SETA port to plug into. With the help of a $25 "2.5 inch external hard drive enclosure", you'll have your files back up and running in no time!

This will be a how-to video as we walk through the process of getting your files back with a broken seagate hard drive port.

The Current enclosure i used is out of stock, but this one should work.

Thank you so much. I had the exact same issue with my seagate. I called seagate and they said it was out of warranty, so they cannot do anything.
They suggested that I go to third party services. I ran to Best Buy and some local dealers and they basically said it could cost anywhere between $600-$1500 and could take 7 weeks or more minimum.
I was so glad I found this video, it saved my life. I had all my photos on this drive. Thank you again!

Ok, I almost never comment, but you just saved me such stress and headache. It was so easy following your directions. I know you made this video years ago but it's still so helpful, THANK YOU!!!

I bought the UGREEN 2.5" Hard Drive enclosure USB 3.0 to SATA III Adapter and did what you described in your video and walah! works like a charm. Thank you again for sharing this information! I'm very appreciative for an easy and inexpensive solution I was able to do myself. BTW, I also bought an ORICO hard drive holder so I can contain the enclosure and cable in something that will protect it from poor quality components from Seagate, as well as, my negligence.

I've had this hard drive with a broken port for years. I got it ages ago for my Xbox for an extra 2tb and just left it after breaking. Thanks for making this. You gave it life again

Broooo I did exactly what you said and you saved a little more than 10 yrs of my LIFE worth of information which I thought I lost. Pics, vids, sentimental memories that I can't remake. You SIR is a life saver... SUBSCRIBE BIG TIME MAN!!! Thank you so much and I hope you get commission once I place an order!!! I haven't ordered it yet but that piece you speak of that comes off and I can just connect the rest was GENIUS. I bought me an 8TB external hard drive from my job... well my job is within another store but anyways that's irrelevant what I'm saying is I can continue what I've been working on since 2009 and just be done with it. Thank you thank you once again!!! :) 1000 thumbs up to you dude!!! Imma transfer everything on to this new drive thanks to you!!!

You’re a friggin life saver man, I got this drive as a gift ‘round Christmas 2021 and the metal thingy inside the port just broke off one day when I pulled the cord out, I tried surviving on the loose connecter since, but this will save me from three years worth of game progress down the crapper

If anyone is wondering if this hack still works I am happy to report that it does! I had the exact same issue with my seagate drive, followed the video and bought the hard drive case from the link, and it fixed it! Thank you! You have saved me from having to take my drive to a repair shop.

Thank you so much for this. Actually my grandfather passed and I did a interview of him YEARS ago which was on that drive. Everything worked as you showed us and now I have memories to share with my family (+saved $200-300 in 2 different countries that would not be ready in time to share)

First of all, thank you SO much for making this video, you saved me a lot of headaches and so much data 😭

Second, I used this method with my hard drive, which is NOT Seagate, it's Toshiba. I took a chance on removing the shell because I was desperate and thankfully it worked out. I know many people are wondering if their drives can be saved using this -- and I'm not saying they can, I just wanted to add my non-Seagate experience. I got my hard drive from Amazon in 2020, so there may be hope for whoever else comes across this video.

Thanks again!!

THANK YOU SO MUCH!! I don't use mine that often, but I save and store everything on it (I have a Seagate 5tb external hard drive). Found this video and realized it was the right one b/c the usb cord had both 'connector bits'. That was after having a mini heart attack.

I can't afford to buy a new one right now and mainly still wanted access to the data on my 'broken one'. Found a US external enclosure for like $10 (one day shipping) that supports up to 6tb. Followed your instructions and IT WORKS!! <3 You are a lifesaver - totally subscribed. And your instructions were so clear and simple in terms of what you do - sometimes terms get tossed around and you have no idea what they refer to. My hard drive is a bit too thick for the enclosure (and had to peel off the inner rubber pad-lines), but I'm using the plastic cover to protect it. The main thing is to have access and if I can find a seagate specific enclosure - I can transfer my hard drive to that. And have this enclosure as a back-up.

So again - THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS!! <3 <3 #GreatJob #HiFromStPaulMinnesota #LifeAndDataSaver

I was ready to look for an ironing tool to try to iron a broken port back. Thank god there is an easier solution lol. Good video mate!

I had a drive with a similar issue and didn’t realize I could slide off the circuit board that makes it into a portable drive. I saw this video and I ran downstairs to get it. I already had the transfer cable from a dead laptop harddrive rescue.

After more than 10 years I will finally see what I has on that drive and as a bonus I will have a free TB storage drive that has been a paperweight for a decade.

My drive is one of those old style HDD that was just repurposed to be a portable drive.

If this doesn’t work I see that I can just hook up a computer power supply and a data cable. Never even considered that until now. I assumed it was screwed unless I used that broken USB port.

Anyway thanks. I can see this video helped alot of people

Thank you SO much for your video on what to do with a broken connection. Exactly the same thing happened to my external Seagate hard drive as the one you were working on. After searching the internet and only finding hard drive recoveries at a huge cost, and also being told by a computer store that fixing my hard drive was impossible, I was so excited to eventually find your video, and I can't wait to get my hard drive enclosure from Amazon! Thank you again!
