The Secret to Getting Big Legs

How I got here…

21: Graduated Vanderbilt in 3 years Magna Cum Laude, and took a fancy consulting job.
23 yrs old: Left my fancy consulting job to start a business (a gym).
24 yrs old: Opened 5 gym locations.
26 yrs old: Closed down 6th gym. Lost everything.
26 yrs old: Got back to launching gyms (launched 33). Then, lost everything for a 2nd time.
26 yrs old: In desperation, started licensing model as a hail mary. It worked.
27 yrs old: "Gym Launch" does $3M profit the next 6 months. Then $17M profit next 12 months.
28 yrs old: Started Prestige Labs. $20M the first year.
29 yrs old: Launched ALAN, a software company for agencies to work leads for customers. Scaled to $1.7mmo within 6 months.
31 yrs old: Sold 75% of UseAlan to a strategic buyer in an all stock deal.
31 yrs old: Sold 66% of Gym Launch & Prestige Labs at $46.2M valuation in all-cash deal to American Pacific Group. (you can google it)
32 yrs old: Started making free content showing how we grow companies to make real business education accessible to everyone (and) to attract business owners to invest or scale their businesses.

Today: Our portfolio now does $200M/yr between 10 companies. The largest doing $100M/yr the smallest doing $5M per year. Our ownership varies between 20% and 100% ownership of the companies. Many of them we invested in early and helped grow (which is how we make our money - not youtube videos).

To all the gladiators in the arena, we’re all in the middle of writing our own stories. The worse the monsters, the more epic the story.

You either get an epic outcome or an epic story. Both mean you win.

Keep crushing. May your desires be greater than your obstacles.

Never quit,

Alex

*FULL DISCLOSURE*
I make content to make money - just - on a longer time horizon than most. I want to build trust with business owners so we can find the best ones and help them scale. And if they’re awesome, write them a check and go all the way as partners.

Heck yeah!! Calf to hamstring is the ultimate eccentric stretch for the quads!! I figured out how to set up the leg extension machine at my gym to have my calves touch the bottom of the seat, then 2 regular sets, and a drop set. Feels so gnarly after 🔥

I wish more guys were open like this and talked freely about crazy amounts of easy load.

In a study with half squats vs full ROM squats, the full ROM saw barely more growth than the half squats in the quads. However there was way more growth in the glutes and adductors in the full ROM

That last bit is super important yall: doesn’t hurt

Push yourself, but if a joint hurts from a motion, stop. Joints can get tired but if they HURT then you may be doing the lift wrong and/or risking injury that you don’t need to. If you should be able to do that motion, start stretching regularly to loosen your joints up.

bulgarian split squats all the way. you can isolate one leg at a time and it’s less perceived effort (for me) compared to barbell squats

Very true most people don’t realize how little ROM they are getting, take a video of yourself doing leg exercises next time and you might be surprised.

Haven’t seen this yet, I wonder can Alex be the student for once and let cbum be the master.. because he is. Alex still has a lot to learn but I love his videos and he’s very capable

I do squats all the way down, where there is no more room to go. I don’t know how to properly explain it, but that’s what i got out of the video and it reminded me of how i do it. I feel like i’m doing it right. Feels better than regular squats where you go only half or 3/4 down

Ok so give us the highest range of motion with heavy loads excercises please!!!

Couldn’t agree more. Deep range of motion on everything I can possibly do has built rather large legs for me. The key for many is progressive overload which requires time and patience. 💯

True and then it’s just volume, legs just need a lot of volume squat movements and hip hinges until your lower back can’t handle anymore, then move onto leg extensions and curls until you can’t walk
