The thing you put above the glass to let the avacado pit stay looks really nice and usefull

Never had any luck with growing in water. I just press the pits directly into soil about halfway and keep the soil moist. 100% success rate on several pits.

i also recommend putting the pit in your compost bin and forgetting about it, it works like magic, one day you decide to oxygenate your compost, and wow, there's a full blown root system on your avocado pit

Ive done both methods and I personally believe it depends on the seed, not the method. The toothpick method works the best for me. I have a beautiful plant and it only took a couple weeks to root. I also have another seed in the paper towel and its taking FOREVER to root.

You can also (I’ve been experimenting) do the paper towel method but for the first week keep it in the fridge
Then take it out and germinate as normal
The stems usually comes out thicker

I've always added avocado pits to the compost pile. The pile is kept moist and it generates heat. By the end of summer there are always some that have sprouted and growing up out of the pile. They need to be moved indoors before winter.

I plant my seed right into soil. Water and watch it grow. I have a 2 year old that is 6 foot . I will take it outside on the patio soon as it warms up. I will have to cut the tree back in the fall.
I have lemon trees and lime trees and mango

My mom started an avocado seed when I was pretty young, and she used the toothpick method. She was growing it for many years. It was eventually put in a large pot. It was still going strong when I left home to go to school. Sometime when I was in my mid-20 I think, my brother let a parrot that we also grew up with hang out in the little tree for a long enough time for her to destroy the tree. So sad!

What kind of liquid fertilizer did you put on the water?
I don't think water, sunlight, and temperature alone can support such lush green leaves.

I have one avocado growing with toothpicks. But I love the small cup, that you put the seed on it.

Do you have to continue wetting the paper towel over the couple weeks or just leave it alone?

I grew an avacado during the winter and it got tall like yours, then I planted it in the garden in my row of cilantro and it did quite well. Autumn came and I felt bad because it was so big there was no room for it in my small house. Unable to find anyone to adopt it I left it to live or die under the snow. Months later in the springtime the stem had died down to the soil but I was pleasantly surprised to see it had a new shoot sprouting up. Again I left it there all summer and through the next winter. Tge second spring came and this time TWO new shoots came up where the previous year’s had died, and they grew lush and about thigh high this time. By late spring they BLOSSOMED, into sweet, fragrant….PEONIES???? I have no idea how this happened. I’ve never had peonies before, one of my neighbors even have peonies. So, essentially I now have “miracle peonies”🤣

If you don’t mind answering, for someone who lives in the non-suitable environment and weathers, how are you guys gonna sustain the life of the avocado trees? Like I’ve seen someone in Nebraska doing this, but what’s the long term plan?

If we put it on the water, how many time we should change the water? Or just let it be there without changing the water?

May I know when they start bearing fruit? Thank youu

Tried it a couple of times with toothpicks. If they ever sprouted, they also quickly began to get moldy. Tried changing water more often, more or less light and temperature, ... Yucky results.
So I gave up and just threw the seeds onto the compost. And they grew! Like crazy!

I've used your method, and it was a success every time 😊

How do you keep the roots from molding? Mine always started growing mold if I do it in water

Is the paper towel wet when you put it in a reusable bag?
