Most of the babies would be sleeping in a supine position, which is considered to be relatively safe. Some parents usually ask me if the baby can sleep on the side and if the baby prefers to sleep on the side, then that is also allowed. I think the real concern is about sleeping in the prone position, because it is known no that the prone position increases the risk of SIDS in small babies. So I would say that a spine position or a lateral position would be good enough for a baby to sleep.
