Why I'm Leaving Adobe And Switching To Affinity And Davinci Resolve

I've been using Adobe's software for a while now but it gets pretty expensive after a while. I don't like the feeling of renting the software that you have to use professionally. Because of that, I've stopped using Adobe. I started by using Blackmagic Designs Davinci Resolve and have been loving it. Then I got the Affinity apps from Serif and decided I'm never looking back to Adobe.

Some people have pointed out that for Affinity, you don't get "unlimited updates" like I said in the video. You can buy a version like 1.x and have all the updates up to the next major version (2.x). Once the next major version is released, you'll have to buy the update/upgrade for that, or you can continue to use the version you bought for as long as you want. Sorry about the mix-up in the video, and thank you to those who pointed it out!

I used Adobe products for 30 years and resisted making the switch, I was concerned about the amount of time it would take to learn the differences between Affinity and Adobe. It took about a week to adjust not as bad as I had built it up in my mind. I really hate the endless Adobe bill, now I realize I can live without it.

I've been using Adobe for 6 years ever since 2015 in sophomore year high school. I have to use the all apps package because for my freelancing I use Photoshop & Illustrator, but I need off, it's getting too expensive and at 21 I'm trying to start taking the thought of moving out on my own *seriously.* Thank you for this. Answered all my questions in one video.

I did the same earlier this year. I couldn't afford Adobe anymore and was sick of their monthly subscription method and I couldn't justify it any longer so I made the switch to Affinity and bought the lot. Best decision ever.

Hey Mike, good to see other creators making the switch! I moved to Affinity and Final Cut but DaVinci intrigues me still with its seamless integration, which reminds me of the personas feature from the Affinity apps. I’ll have to check it out!

I was watching the video as I scrolled down to the description, expecting you to have 100k+ subs and then I was really surprised that it's under 1000. I really like your style and your reflective argumentation. I wish you all the best for your YouTube career! :)

I've seen a few of these videos and this is by far the most comprehensive, logical and ... natural and relatable. That's surprisingly hard to come by on youtube, thanks man for all your work!

I love affinity photo. I started using it because it was so cheap and as a college student who does photography as a hobby, I honestly can’t afford Adobe. You really are renting Adobe’s software. Plus, colored icons!!! I mean it’s a no brainer to make the switch😂

I jumped ship once Adobe went 'Subscription Only'. If they offered an option to buy, I probably would of stayed. I've been on Affinity Photo for the last several months and I have no regrets, it does everything I need it to do for my projects. I bought the Speed Editor from Black Magic for $300 and it came with a DaVinci Resolve License for free. 2 for 1. I think it's a steal considering Resolve is used by Hollywood professionals. It kinda makes me wonder why people are still on Adobe when there are more affordable and even better options.

I did exactly this about a year and a half ago and have never looked back.

I made the switch here too - Davinci Studio and Affinity apps as well as On1 Photo for RAW photo edits. Love it!

I just concluded my 3 years transition from After Effects to HitFilm and I'm very pleased... It was the last Adobe software I used...
I've been moving from Adobe software and a few pieces of software that went subscription only to alternatives of one-time payment or open-source. I don't like it when the only option is to rent my tools. Subscription can be an option but not the only one. The same way I like the option of buying a car and there's the option to rent it if I want, I need to be able to buy my work tools outright.

I'm pleased to say that since the past month I'm Adobe-free :-) After Effects was the last to be delete because I had lots of plugins and templates I needed to replace or adapt to HitFilm, DaVinci Resolve (and Fusion) and Blender but I got the job done (not all but what I actually use, I was able to do it). And way before that I said goodbye to Premiere, Photoshop, Lightroom, InDesign, Illustrator, Audition.

If anyone is interested (or on the same path I was) here are the programs I use the most on a daily basis: DaVinci Resolve Studio, HitFilm, ShotCut, KDEnlive, OBS, Aegisub, Synfig Studio, Papagayo, Pencil, HandBrake (video), Fairlight, Audacity, Ardour, LMM Studio (audio), GIMP, Krita, Darktable+digikam, RAW Therapee+Photivo, Affinity Photo, Luminar, (photo), Scribus, Inkscape, Affinity Designer and Publisher (graphic design), HitFilm Pro, Fusion Studio, Blender, Natron (VFX), Ashampoo Burning Pro, Img Burn, DVDStyler (media burning), GNU/Linux distros, LibreOffice, Task Coach, Tryton, Thunderbird, FileZilla, 7zip, Clonezilla, Free File Sync, GRSync, GParted, PhotoRec (other).

I switched from Adobe to Affinity a few days ago, because of the recent licensing issues. I've been using DaVinci Resolve Studio for a couple years (it came with my Speed Editor keyboard), and I love it. I wish Blackmagic Design would buy the Affinity suite and integrate it into DaVinci Resolve Studio.

Absolutely agree with you.
Great video great recommendations.
Thanks a lot!

Adobe killed FreeHand, killed PageMaker, killed Director, killed MacroMedia and many other great software, I hate Adobe for its monopoly practices, disdain for users and consumer abuse.

Adobe says Good Bye... and Affinity says Hello!!!

The biggest reason for my leaving Adobe is that with Affinity I do not have to go online. For security's sake, my power house computer with my pro photography/videography rarely goes online. I only go online with my little toys (telephone, tablet, laptop).

I already "switched" to Da Vinci and Affinity. I don't really need them to my core job, but I like to improve my presentation documents.

Don't forget Fairlight for audio in DaVinci Resolve. It is a non-destructive editor. Every time you apply and edit in audacity you have to either save over your original file, or save a different file with a slightly different file name to keep track of which version of the file that is and what edits have been applied. With Fairlight in DaVinci Resolve, your original file remains untouched and you can go back and change settings and rerender the audio anytime you want.

I think you need to add Final Cut Pro X and Motion on to that list.
Great products at great prices! and no renting….
