Why I'm Leaving Lightroom for Luminar 2018
I've always had a big problem with Adobe Lightroom workflow and my landscape photography post processing. Editing my photos is 1/3 of my photography process, and as a landscape photographer I want that process to be as smooth as possible. I do not like switching from Lightroom to Photoshop constantly to finish a photo. In fact, I disliked that switching so much that I've decided to leave Lightroom for Luminar 2018 for retouching my photos. Luminar 2018 is a Lightroom alternative and a Photoshop alternative in one. Luminar 2018 photography editing allows me to do everything I did in Lightroom and Photoshop (except for merge panoramas) in one software. That saves me a ton of time! That's why I'm switching to Luminar 2018 and I think you should consider it too.

I ditched all adobe products for Affinity Photo and Affinity Designer. Adobe has become a bit too greedy. Luminar loks good too David. Thanks for posting.

Well, I am about 2 years later in 2020 but I purchased Luminar 4 when it came out in late 2019. I have never used PS or LR, because I refuse to lease software. I find Luminar 4 does everything I need it to do. I still don't use Looks mainly because I like learning how this software works and once I am 100% confident. I will play with the other tools like Looks. This was an awesome vlog. Thanks and glad I found this.

Use Bridge, If I import Raw images I go to properties and choose Canon DPP as my default option to open CR 2 files. For Tiff and Jpegs I choose Affinity Photo, Bridge will open each file in its appropriate application. I found the Raw processor which came with the camera superior to the Adobe Applications. Affinity photo far more economical than the subscription based Adobe Photoshop. Adobe Bridge is still free for the time being. The Camera Raw command in Bridge applies to the Adobe RAW engine just ignore it and click open.

Haven't switched yet but have bought Luminar and will use it next to Lightroom, let's see what happens.

How much muscle should a computer have to run this software in its entirety?

Hi David, I opine: with Luminar 3 launching today, 2 aspects of Photoshop, I hope may be in Luminar 3 is moving objects such as people, and filling in eg where a panorama crop may leave curved edges

Greetings, do you also use an iPad for photo editing and if so, could you recommend a non-PS alternative for the same. Thanks!

Hello I guessed they listened to your request because I am using the trial version of Luminar 3 for Windows and imported all of my images from my WD 4tb drive, so I will purchase this because it is a very great product and no monthly subscription, so I can add it to my Affinity Suite, Davinci Resolve, and now Luminar 3. I have been using Lightroom 4 but figured I better learn something else before it stops working. Thank you for a wonderful and honest video.

I've been using Luminar since the 2017 version, and, as I'm sure you've heard, Luminar 2019 will be very close to what you are looking for, with it becoming much like LR...but better, in my opinion. Of course, those of us that have Luminar 2018 will get the new 2019 for FREE, so Skylum has created a wonderful application indeed. I'm more of a beginner, in that I use presets a fair bit, but I still do 'adjust' as you do after a preset choices is made. The amount of filters in the catalogue are immense, which covers pretty well anything one could want for photo editing! I haven't used LR for well over a year, for all those same reasons you mention, as it's overall a faster way of editing in my opinion! Looking forward to some time in December when we'll get our Luminar 2019 with all the new creativity within it. Thanks for the video, much appreciated!

Hate the monthly subscription on Lightroom, just bought the Luminar to test, , so far it works with ARW files from Sony A7 III, but i feel the software is kinda slow, and i have a fast mbp 2018

Luminar is a simple all in one (mostly) editing programme that is very powerful. I love it!!!

I’m fed up with Adobes greed factor of monthly fees. I’m looking for alternative software options. It’s definitely refreshing to know there are other competitive software companies out there to switch to in the near future.

I've been using Luminar 2018 for several months, and I like everything about it. The Accent AI filter (and the recently added Sky Enhancer) are magical. I generally don't use the presets; I like playing with the sliders. The one change I'd like to see is more precise adjustment of blacks and whites; I prefer Photoshop's Curves window over Luminar's sliders. I still use PS for basic adjustments, and the occasional Topaz filter, but almost always, the photo is improved by running it through Luminar.

I have been using Luminar and Aurora for PC since they came out with it. I find it very user friendly and easy to learn. I still use LR for organizing and import but my editing takes place in Luminar. The way they set up brushes, gradients and other apps is awesome. Aurora HDR from Skylum is also a great addition to this. You don't want any movement taking bracketed shots and the option to an exposure in case that happens has helped. Great video!!
