We need to talk about the future of this channel... (and the past)

I started this YouTube Channel on September 28th, 2014. Today is the ten year anniversary. That's crazy. In that time a lot of things have changed, from Steam, the state of Linux gaming, and things in my life. I'm so grateful for your continued viewership, but things have not been going great here. So I think it's time for a change.

I remember those days (2007) me talking about Linux, and people looking at me like a crazy Jehovah witness 🤣

I follow you since this channel was called Linux Gamer back then when you only can play frozen bubble and super tux and a few more opensource games.
The landscape of linux gaming has changed so much that there are plenty of youtubers making reviews of games and benchmarks.
I hope you will be doing good content from now on.

I really enjoy your channel, and it's unfortunate that I only found it because of my steam deck tinkering. You've helped me figure out a lot of steam deck related stuff out that I wouldn't have been able to otherwise so I appreciate all the content.

My original foray into Linux was also Ubuntu probably about 20 years ago almost, it was for a handful of programs that were only available on Linux at the time.

Also side note I started to follow my passion about 4 years ago, which was game design and now I'm 4 years into developing my own game!

For us who don't like Patreon's Data Privacy Policy, is becoming a Youtube Channel member helpful?
Since I already have a Youtube account anyways in order to pay for Premium, its less accounts and services i need to be subscribed to

I've really appreciated almost all of your videos. You were the first YouTube channel I found that focused specifically on gaming on Linux, and even now I think there are few others.

I think that having a FOSS focused gaming channel is important, and I've also appreciated the integrity you've brought to your product reviews. And I think your gaming focus has tended to cause you to be far more user focused in your non-gaming content, which isn't something I really think is true for other Linux focused channels.

My history with computing is much longer than yours. It's interesting to see various people's on-ramp. Mine was the fact that I was hugely fascinated by gadgets even by a young child, and there was someone who worked at my small town elementary school who bought them computers. The first computer I ever wrote a program for was an Apple II.

The first Unix system I personally owned (I'd played a lot with Unix systems at the U of MN when I took courses there as an HS student) was a SCO Unix system. This was right as Linux was just coming into existence. From there I moved to Unixware because I couldn't see how FOSS could support itself. All that changed with ESR's Cathedral and the Bazaar paper, and I went out and got RH 6.1 in the late 90s, and have been an RH guy and ardent proponent of FOSS ever since.

I was part of BBS culture in the mid-late 80s, and I had a computer that was part of Usenet (when Usenet was primarily handled with dial-up UUCP links) and had a bang-path email address that led to a mail server I personally ran. I didn't have regular access to the Internet until I started hanging around the U of MN. This was pre-HTTP/WWW days. And Gopher was invented at the U of MN, and I know some of the people responsible.

I gave up dual booting for games in 2004, and never finished Half-Life 2 because of that. I did get myself a PS2, and then a PS3. But I didn't really start regularly playing games on my Linux box until Loki, and when they died, I didn't really much (aside from some games I already owned) until Humble Bundle started.

Happy 10th anniversary to your channel, wondering if your going to cover Linux Arch & the company everybody likes & loves Valve are teaming up. The future looks bright for Linux.

As a 49 year old UK gamer, you are a dude!! I have learnt a lot about the Steam Deck thanks to you. I was Commodore 64, Amiga, then consoles. I had dabbled with PC, but not much. During lock down, I bought a gaming laptop, because I travel loads with work. A gaming PC kicks ass!! The Oculus Quest was another amazing purchase. The Steam Deck is on another level though and has changed my gaming so much!! Thank you so much for your videos. You are the sort of person I love meeting in a pub, and chatting to!!

I've switched to Linux in 2006. I've accepted no gaming — Linux has so much to tweak it is like game. Game that opened great opportunities as web dev. Recently I've checked gaming on Linux and was surprised, Steam just works.

You reminded me of the early days of using Linux (I've been using it since 95'ish) and trying to play video games on it. I play all of Orange Box on Linux via WINE (2007) back in the day.

hahaha your story kind of reminds me of mine, except mine started much later, i just turned 22, i remember my first interaction with linux was with linux mint 6 (not lmde6), and the first game i played on pc was alienvs predator when i was 6, and also my first "proper" gaming pc i had to work for it, i was 11, i was living in a town in the middle of "camino de santiago" in spain, so there was a lot of pilgrims passing by, and i was selling water and soda cans to the pilgrims, i gained like 30-50 euro each day, (it was more than minimum wage in spain, also "working" only like 3h a day) imagine in a summer i won something like 3k being 11
