I Walked 20,000 Steps A Day For a Week - Here's What Happened.

In this video I do everything in my power to walk 20K steps every single day for one week. It turns out that it was actually a lot harder than I thought it would be to get all the steps in.

This was a really fun video to make! If you liked it, I would really appreciate a like, comment, and subscribe to the channel! Everything helps me make more videos faster for you!

Should I try 30K steps a day? Or 20K for a month? Let me know!

I like to stay around 3-4k steps a day. Throw in 3-4 hours of Netflix and that's what we call living the good life.

If you do ever decide you want to boost your steps to 20K for the long term, you can make the experience less miserable by increasing your steps more gradually rather than just suddenly doubling the number of steps you take. So if your norm previously was 10K, you could aim for a goal of 12K at first, and then make new goals from there once you're able to maintain that. Also, of course, remember to wear sunscreen if you are outdoors a lot of the time.

"I like to run! im not good at it but I like it" is the realist thing ever 🤣

Doctor here, you did everything correctly! (I’m not a doctor)

If you get yourself a dog, it's quite easy to get your steps in.

I’m about 2 months post op from spinal surgery. I’m a 40 yr old male, 6’1 tall 330pounds 43%bmi. I’m averaging about 15k steps per day, walking everyday (7 days per week). I plan on hitting the 20k steps per day soon. Slowly transitioning to it. I’m disabled and not working, so I have a lot of spare time. I split my daily walks into 2 reps. Once in the morning, I walk 4 miles, which is 4 laps around this park down the street from me. And come home to rest, eat, nap & do my 2nd rep late afternoon/early evening same amount.

I plan to do 5 miles per rep, which is 5 laps around a local park, twice per day by next week. Anything more than that would just be an extra cherry on top. But I’m doing this for multiple reasons. I currently have high blood pressure & high cholesterol, take meds for both. Hopefully I’ll be eliminating those soon, as well as shed a few pounds in the process. I’m currently on week 2 of walking. I plan on making this an everyday thing. I was pretty beat up after every walk. Making sure I stretch before & after each rep. I’m hoping after next week this daily fatigue will subside & I won’t feel beat up everyday, but I still push through it. After I walk my 1st mile, the fatigue goes away & that’s when I warm up to it. But this fatigue is mainly when I’m not walking 😂 Definitely feeling my calf & thigh muscles screaming, but I make sure I don’t hurt myself. I walk a comfortable paste for my weight & size & spinal condition.

Not enough self care can make this a living hell. My personal tips: Take a 10 mins break after every hour of walking. Stretch before and after. At the end of every walk, lift your legs up the wall for 15 mins to reduce inflammation. Use some sort muscle spray ( I don't know what they are called, athletes use them to keep their muscles warm) spray it from the soles of your feet all the way to your hamstrings. Wear sunscreen and a hat. Drink 2 glasses of water before and after each 2hr walk. Split your walks into 2 sessions : 2 hrs in the morning and 2 hrs in the evening. Day to day walking does not count towards your 20k (it makes you more anxious constanty checking how many steps you've taken). Take 1 day off a week for rest and recuperation. I hope this helps. Edit to clarify these are my personal rules that I do and work for me, and I've implemented them after attempting similar challenges and failing because I wasn't preparing and caring for myself self enough.

I try to walk every day and to turn walking into a keystone habit but I do walk for around 30 minutes. How long does it take you to walk 20k?

Interesting experiment. On a normal day (I live in Berlin, Germany) I do between 5 and 10 k steps per day. This is taking public transport, going to work, to the supermarket, to the gym, meeting some friends or girlfriend outside. On the days I stay at home, I actually do very few steps, between 2 and 4 k. So a treadmill like yours would be a very good thing.
Congrats on the video and keep adding steps!

PS: please don't use the song with the bell anymore, it was painful for my ears every time it played 😅

The sunburn - As an Aussie, a very pale, Irish / English / Scottish / Celt / I dunno that region of world Aussie, you just don't go outside here, unless you are completely covered and slicked up with sunscreen... MAAAATE - Day 5 - What the heck?! Why are you NOT wearing a shirt again?! Did you not learn?! Okay, sunscreen.... Still.... We have a thing here in Australia - Slip, Slop, Slap - So, that means - Slip on a shirt, slop on some sunscreen and slap on a hat. The sun here SUCKS though, it is why we have the highest rate of skin cancer in the world and why I have to go get naked in front of some random doctor every year so he can look at my skin with these weird binocular eye-glasses thingies, real close up. Often, skin cancer will not show up for years and years, so please, my dude, please be sun safe! You don't want to have big chunks of skin cut out in your 40s and 50s. I have had sunspots removed from my face and chest, even though I have always been very careful in the sun. Please be careful. I will stop being a mother hen now, but I worry about people.

Like you, I'm a muso, I'm a flautist. I have not seen your videos until now (weird that it should be a walking video that brought you to my attention, but YouTube algorithms...). I gather you went to uni or college for music, as did I 101 years ago (well, 20). Because I was undiagnosed with ADHD, studying was pretty hard for me, if it required no preparation or I loved it, top marks, if it required sustained effort... yeah, best we don't talk about those (lol). Hence, it took me 7 years to complete my degree. As a result of that, I ended up with 3 majors, performance (solo and ensemble), composition and musicology. The Associate Professor who ran the School of Contemporary Arts, on my graduation day, came up to me and said "I look forward to seeing some great things from you in the musicology realm" "Nah, I've just taken a job with Housing!" (public housing). She was horrified! But it was seriously the best thing I have ever done. I had uncontrolled tics in my fingers which makes playing quite hard, especially as I have gotten older (now it seems to be somewhat controlled with my ADHD meds, which is a surprising outcome! but to get to the level I was at... ugh... kids, husband, working full time and studying and practicing 6 hours a day... just don't have it in me), composition - Just wasn't where some people are and musicology, I was just burnt out by the end. Now, I am a huge advocate in my realm of housing, completing a degree is psychology and criminology (ADHD, what can I say) and hoping to complete a PhD in the interactions between housing, transport and community wellbeing. But I still love my music and I still play when I can, just not to my former level. My kids play in orchestras now, one on mallet percussion, the other on cello and I get to support them and their love of music. Life... it's a funny thing.

Try to walk 25, 000 steps everyday for 30 days and see if it is even better or too much..
If you fail this, that's fine but make sure you should hit the exact number and no more than 200 or no less than 200 as well without failing once...❤❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊😊
