Dave talks about the things he learned when he walked 20,000 steps every day between March 2018 and August 2020.

You don't need to walk 20,000 steps every day to enjoy the benefits of walking as a fitness activity. Dave invites you to check out his daily ten-minute podcast, Walking is Fitness, when you're ready to begin a new fitness journey.

This video is not intended as medical advice for you. Dave is not a doctor or even licensed personal trainer. He's just a guy who loves walking and wants to motivate others to do the same.

Wow! Great job. I walked 10k everyday for a year and thought that was challenging! I used to run a lot, and lift weights during a 20-yr career in the military. Now, I walk everyday. At 62, I find it so beneficial for not only my physical health, but my mental health as well. Very peaceful way to exercise.

I’m making it to walk at least 5000 steps every single days.
Yesterday I walked 15212 steps and I have clocked in 800km so far. 😊😊

I love your honesty and approach to walking for fitness! Walking has been something I do daily for more than just fitness and it’s so refreshing to find you right here on YouTube! A fellow Walker. Looks like you love the trails as well! so many hidden benefits to walking aren’t there? thank you for inspiring! 20, 000 steps for 2 1/2 years is a big deal. Congratulations on your continued success.🎉

22 years ago, I did 100 sit-ups every night for two and a half years. I had a strong abs and great posture. Maybe, I'll try 20, 000 steps a day now...I wonder how long that would take? Thanks for this inspiring podcast!

I set myself a 10k a day challenge when I was in my office job, I did that for about 5 years, totally changed my approach to fitness! Now I’m a professional dog Walker and avg 25k per day, so I decided on the rare day I was quiet I would let my body rest even if it meant not getting my 10k. But during those 5 years that commitment to myself improved me in so many ways!

Really felt the 4th point. Feeling like you can trust yourself to stick around when things get hard is essential to accomplishing any goals.

Hi Dave. I am new to your podcast and think it could be the solution I need. I am an avid cyclist, sometimes cycling 150-200 miles in a week. But as the days grow shorter and the weather gets colder the rides are not as frequent. I am taking on the 90 day challenge, which should just about carry me into the 2024 cycling season! Looking forward to your daily chats. Thx so much 🤜🏻🤛🏻

Hats off to you for taking on this goal and knocking it out of the park! 👍 Thanks for sharing. If 7, 000 steps is 3 miles...I suspect you were walking about 8-9 miles a day. That would require 2.5 to 3 hours a day every day!

I've been consistently doing 10k steps + daily (years) but I'm aiming for 20k to be my normal. I do them indoors, while watching tv, treadmill and outside and in the bathroom late at night when I'm hiding from the kids haha

Old military calculation was 5 kilometers in hour for an infantry on a march. With weapons and other staff.

Hi Dave....Look forward to your videos. I'm 69 and have been walking about 8-10K steps daily...2-3 sessions. What do you think about the use of walking stick/poles especially in hills? Also, do you ever use a weighted vest? Been walking consistently since retirement at 65 also eat about 15-20 percent less, stopped sugary drinks I think is my other key changes. Thanks, love your channel.

I walk 10, 000 steps every day power walking around a measured area and sweat a lot in the warm sun plus a lot of normal walking everyday which I don’t count at all
Joined my wife doing aerobic Zumba 3 times a. Week.
I enjoy the exercise after quite a few years of not very much. My wife is also happy and surprised -pleased that we do Zumba together and never dreamed that that could happen.
It also goes along with us now doing a very healthy diet
Enjoyment and feel good factor is very high

Walking long distance daily may be very beneficial for overall health but little benefit if you want to do endurance sports like XC skiing, rowing or cycling..
