I know I've said this before - But this is why I HIGHLY recommend you just use the official UE5 Skeleton for all your characters - You get 1: The instant ability to swap Meshes with all the default characters, 2: Access to all Unreal Standard Animations, 3: Access to all Unreal Marketplace Animations, 4: SUPER easy one click solution to create your own full control rig and start selling your stuff on the market, 5: Almost no Re-Targeting shenanigans, 6: Everything about your character will automatically be compatible with the entire Unreal Suite -

When you try and use your own rig or skeleton, you throw all of those benefits out the window and could easily spend hundreds of hours fixing/debugging/re-targeting trying to accomplish what could have been a 30 second endeavor - So, yeah - Use the Standard Skeleton, it will make your life WAY easier :)

I think this sort of thing is hugely helpful. It's the sort of info you'd spend hours trying to google or days trying to figure out yourself.

All I want to do is take my custom character and rig it to the ue5 skeleton, why is that so hard 😭

I'm curious about how to set up a modular rig like armored core and how to retarget the animation for each limb with working IK for aiming and foot to ground. Humanoid characters are relatively easy to work with since most human characters have the standard rig.

I wish these tutorials saying how to CREATE a rig actually taught you how to create a control rig. Want an octopus? a dog? a bird? Wish i could find a video that wasn't just clickbait.

Regarding the standard rig, how much can be used if your character is VERY differently proportioned? For example, as a rig for a biped that has animal legs, can the standard rig be edited to conform more to your mesh?

Question, may I ask how you grabbed the metahuman skeleton and skinned it to your new character mesh?

In cases where your character includes extra bones, such as a tail, how do you handle the controllers? Do you need to create and import new controllers from Blender, or is it necessary to set them up directly within UE5? I assume the custom controllers would need to be built in Blender first, but would love clarification on the workflow.
