Russia to withdraw from Ukrainian city of Kherson, western officials say - BBC News

Russian troops could be preparing to withdraw from the key city of Kherson, which they have held since March, western officials have said.

Ukraine has been talking up an offensive to capture the city since the summer but progress has been slow and so far they have just retaken some surrounding farmland.

Kherson straddles both sides of the Dnipro river and Russian commanders may be pulling troops back to the eastern side of the river which is easier to defend, reports suggest.

As a Russian I have huge respect for Ukrainian people bravely defending their country. I’m really sorry for what our government and military forces are doing. Unfortunately, it’s not easy to stop them.

Broken as my heart is at this war when I see the Ukrainian people I feel a sense of pride at a people that are, against all odds, holding and retaking their land slowly and surely. The strength shown here in this war is beyond commendable.
I wish we were doing more to support them honestly.

I love how there’s shelling and bombing etc, the press man is petrified and the Ukrainian soldier is chilling with a cigar. Priceless 😁

Would it be possible for the BBC to do a show regarding the years running up to this dreadful situation so we could all see what on earth happened and why this is taking place . I’m sure the general public worldwide would appreciate such a program

War shouldn't exist in this era as it's riding on civilians lives which doesn't have anything to do with it 😭

I personally knew a WW2 Ukrainian Spitfire pilot, he was shot down twice, the second time he was back in the cockpit in less than 24 hours. Those guys are fearless with a will of iron. No matter how long it takes, they'll never give up.

"That's our job as commanders.. to keep our men alive" .... What a stark contrast to Russian commanders using their men as Cannon Fodder

"We don't have as many bullets as they have people." Sums up so much of this stalemate. One force is clearly superior by number of people they can throw at the bullets, and the other clearly superior by every other measure.
