Release the masseter muscle in your jaw!
Показать описание
Release your masseter muscle and decrease jaw tightness!
o This is an extremely powerful muscle of our jaw and is a muscle of mastication, which means it participates in the function of chewing.
o It attaches up under our cheekbone here which is called the zygomatic arch and it inserts down along the mandible called the mandibular ramus.
o The masseter acts to elevate or close our jaw, so you can imagine how active this muscle is throughout the day.
o Excessive activities such as clenching and grinding are called parafunctional activities. These types of movements activate the masseter more than average as they involve mandibular elevation or a closed jaw resulting in overuse. This leads to soft tissue tightness and trigger points which can refer pain to other areas.
o When this muscle is aggravated and tight, it can refer pain into the ear, into the orbit of the eye, and even present as tooth pain.
o There are lots of ways to down train this muscle to calm it down including self-release techniques as shown in the video.
